View Full Version : So, physics changes...

A lot of threads asking for the /stuck timer to be removed because the new physics changes cause quest-breaking bugs on a daily basis. Here's my story for the day.

Decided to run epic Into the Deep, except the High Priestess (the very last enemy before quest completion) decides to get stuck in a wall. GM completely unhelpful, even though previously other GMs have shown they can respawn bosses.

Long story short, part of my guild has already left for Diablo III, and today's adventure is pushing the rest of us to Guild Wars 2. Can't talk about the things behind the NDA, but physics could be the straw that broke the camel's back. Might want to address this sooner rather than later, Turbine.

Worst "stuck" case I've ever seen. Normally a stuck mob can be targetted with AOE's and they'll either end up dieing or teleporting out. She was so stuck she was blocked from all spells and even pets wouldn't react to her.

I find it a bit interesting that the game has logic for a player to be teleported out of a quest if they go "off map", but no logic for a mob and an essential red name at that.

I really do wish that Turbine management would have a talk with their GM's and let them know that not every requestor for service is a waste of their time.

Did a von6 and one of the wf in the north part got stuck in a wall. Couldnt kill it so a door wouldnt open. Also had a guildy get stuck in a wall on the last part of ToD.

Dun worry, people who went to D3 will be back soon.

I don't expect any physics changes to happen until xpac or after xpac at this stage.

Had that exact same bug happen. A GM eventually offered to teleport me past the door...30 minutes after we'd reformed and re-completed the quest.

They CAN do this sort of thing though, so when you get a GM that tells you they can't, it makes me wonder if they're ignorant, or just lazy.

I've had several occasions where a GM killed the offending stuck mob. Desecrated Temple of Vol (twice), Running with the Devils, and Prison of the Planes.

I've had other occasions where the GM was able to reset the offending mob. Partycrashers, Desecrated Temple of Vol (again), Shroud.

I've even had an occasion where the GM just completed the quest and let us continue on (Partycrashers again).

The GM in this case said they knew it's an issue relating to the update, and it's totally NOT our fault. They've shown that they can fix quest issues on other occasions, but this particular GM decided to do nothing.

Long story short, part of my guild has already left for Diablo III, and today's adventure is pushing the rest of us to Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 2 poses absolutely no threat to this game whatsoever. It is structured towards casual gamers with a fraction of the depth, complexity. Gear in that game means nothing. The rarest items (from high level dungeons) are purely cosmetic armors.

It is, by and large, a game for tweener girls with a distinct focus on 'personal story' (aka drama) and 'appearance' (aka foo foo)

I checked out some of the GW2 beta weekend coverage and it is still a developmental mess in many. many areas so tell your guildes...um...good luck with that.

Another perspective.

GW2 poses a large risk, exactly because it caters to the "no recurring billing" crowd that is willing to spend some money on games. It is structured such that everyone can play together, at every level, from every server, some of the time.

Rare Gear is appearance, and yes fluff. The Elite are separated from the Bads by their skill* and "teamwork". That your kid, or your husband, or cousin, or wife can play the game with you without spending the same amount of time is pretty awesome in itself.

A game that is somehow especially girl friendly would be awesome in another way. However while the game is new player friendly, it is not noob friendly. It is very deep when you combine a few things. You have two weapon sets to swap between, each has their own skills, and changes the way you play. Respec your other skills and both weapon sets when you are not in combat. Everyone dies sometimes, everyone can res, and everyone can heal a bit.

Everyone is self sufficient. There is no watch a set of red bars while playing whack a mole. You can still help others as many of your abilities work together, including healing. All groups are BYOH, and all classes are designed for that.

Skill* includes metagame knowledge, applying that knowledge in movement, some tactics, changing your own weapon and skill sets, and other aspects.

There goes my interest in it.

I'm waiting to see how Neverwinter Nights turns out, looks very intresting with player generated content, and the combat system is really nice. I'll check back once they release Motud and I'll pick it up from the bargain bin for $5.

Sorry, it does have its good points, and bad points, and those vary by player. I myself plan to play both DDO and GW2 depending on how I want to play that day.

Don't be so narrow-minded. They could easily be both.

So we can look forward to another /ragequit?

Or individual GM's could have varying level of abilities, based on their experience and length of service/employee level.

George the new guy can follow the book explicitly. Dan has been there for X months is a bit more trusted, he's got some more powers in the live game too. George can call on Dan if "needed", but Dan has a few George's to help, and "needed" was not well defined.

Never raged, I posted my thoughts about the game. Some might agree others might not.

Our Horoth tank in a hard ToD last night got stuck in the wall. He was badged and couldn't be targeted for heals. After the badges wore off he did /stuck, and was teleported to the marketplace. He was only able to come back in for his completion, not for his chests.

New physics suck.

Dont sweat it. D3 is a painted over version of D2 and they will get bored in a month or so. They will return to DDO and you can toss out a *see... I told ya so*.
