Heya,
First, i´d like to say thanks to all the devs/producers for the nice game we have...
BUT, i´m writing this "letter" to point out a few things that i think that must be observed and cautious about:
*I´m Brazillian, so there may be some mistakes on my writing, please send a PM with suggested corrections(Only if you are sure about it) :D*
I´ve been playing DDO for quite some time, since Feb 2010, may not be like founders and such, but still, i´ve seen a lot of things happening on this game,
but what i want to drag the attention for 2 main topics:
1- THE UPDATE
From past updates, i´ve never been much a fan of Lamma land(Lammania) because i want to be suprised, i just follow forums to see the main news, and info(Also as rants and such, they are fun *I think beta people know of one really recent*). But i´ve seen more than once a huge Bug being found on lamma, and the devs saying "It was fixed internally" but once it hits Live, there it is again(To be true, i cant record a specific bug, but i´m 100% sure that it has already happenned).
This is a major Update, its an expansion, i really DONT wanna see it coming together with fresh, new, severe bugs(Of course its impossible to have a game free of bugs, buts lets keep/fix the current only, and avoid new ones).Lamma is here for it,To prevent things from happenning, but whats the advantage if old serious/annoying bugs persist?
My main example is the abbot, i´ve never seen a dev saying: "There, abbot is perfect, the way we plan to be" - Sure, it may not ever be like that, but invisible roids, off timing tiles, some almost impossible(without a well planned, gathered and experienced party) runs, on elite for examplo, also with the drop rates on this raid(I´m pointing out this example because this is one of the raids i like the most, together with LoB[Awesome job on this one] - work may be in progress towards its original concept, but theres still ways to go).
I´ve never seen on the 11 updates i´ve been present a free of bugs one, thats the concern i have, if some small updates bring some bugs(Also, some severe), what would an expansion, a huge update like this bring? This is the attention i require and request, as a favor, for us. - If it is always the devs concern and focus at launch, please, take care of this update, i really wanna see it and say "Wow thats freakin pure awesomesauce!!!!".
I´m also pretty sure that the flow of incoming bug reports are like a tsunami, a huge amount that cant be controlled, but some must be paid attention, Which bring us to topic 2
2-Devs/GM´s interaction
With no doubt DDO is one of the games with the best player/"Behind the code" people interaction. But i´ve seen many reports(prints) that i preffer to believe that arent true. It may be some standard procedure, but many players reporting in-game serious bugs and GM´s answering with the standard answer " This issue is not on the know issues list. Please fill an in-game bug report..." (Something close to that) - Whats the point? GM´s have to be neutral, sure, but what about answering something like "This issue is not on the know issues list. We will proceed to inform this problem so we can solve it, thanks for informing us..."(Ok, its informal but thats just a concept).
Personally, i really like Cordovan, Eladrin, Maj, and 404(Sorry for the others [You may have my like, its almost free, just some TP... /joke]) cause on the few times
i logged on lamma and asked on forums they answered my few questions(really few_, specially maj :) ). Aside from the stantard procedure and treatment that every company should have, i think a bit more of "personal talking" would be nice, like those 4 always done, at least with me. I know they are Devs, they arent GM´s, they are "Forums guy", they have
more of interaction, but still, it should apply to GM too. I do not have constant access to tickets, so i have about 1-2 experience of in-game tickets, and with some luck, i was
fast and well attended.
Sure, i´ve seen reports of unexpected problems(some sounded complicated) being solved, and those GM´s have always been much more responsive and "personal"(Not that they brought the talk to themselves, but treated the person as a conversation, not some robot standart answers).
Still personally, aside from that point, i think that a "DDO news" or a "List of IP Work" was really good. Which reminds me the end of the week with Majmalphunktion (name probably wrong :D),it really pleased myself to see a weekly report of the directions of the game, a look around behind the code. It may be time consuming, but it only shows us players that work is really being done towards our "desires"(Not sure if the best word, but thats what i came with), by which i mean, our complaints about issues. Sure, it may never please everyone, but when i saw the reports of maj, i thought, "Kokoon(Tm) we will have that" or "Nice, they are working on this **** bug". It really helps us players and make us feel more tranquilized.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I took my time to write the report above for only 1 reason(that may be 2): I Like DDO, and i want to see it improve and grow. But my concern is the first topic.
This is NOT a rant, if someone feels like it, please understand that this is not my objective, i´m expressing my personal believes and thoughts, on which i really wanna
make better.
If devs read that, please answer or PM me, i just wanna see some light at the end of the tunnel(Not a train please, leave it to Wile E. Coyote and the road runner :D) that you guys feel what i say, that something is being done or will be done Kokoon(Tm) - Also, if the weekly, or even montly report is possible).
Thanks for reading,
Zess
PS: (this text is posted on the beta forums and on the general forums, as i believe it is a concern that involves every player, but as we are coming to an xpack i am directing
my comments on it).
