Well when you get all growed up you might do some ''proper'' damage with that Bow of yours.

All geared the big boys are critting close to the 400 mark. Some even Crit on a 13 ?!

However it's fairly obvious you like your toon so fair play to you.

Why arent you using a Paralyser ? An 11th lvl Ranger gets IPS

With that feat and the right Bow in your hands you are the most effective member of your group

11th level is where your AA is at its most powerful in comparison with the other classes

Unfortunately it goes down hill from their relatively speaking

You are gonna have to face up to the truth that a capped AA cannot match the DPS of a Barb or Sorc out of manyshot.

However that doesnt mean your AA is useless. Played properly you can still be worth your spot in the toughest of Epics.

The problem lies in the fact that a significant proportion of AA's arent played all that well. Hence the ''bad press'' and the declines for all

These tunnel entrances are the perfect place for eny rangers to do heavy damge on melees until the melees can reach them - because the enemy rangers it on high cliffs (or something like that) which melees just can't instantly reach.

In the worst case, the "entrance" to the "cliff" is so that the melees need to run several kilometres (you know what i mean) until they finally find a ledge so that they can climb on the cliff.

Which gives the enemy rangers & casters more than enough time to mow down the melees - who then complain that they don't get healed enough, possibly.

This is the exact point where there is actual need for a ranger : To get other, enemy ranged "damage makers" (namely casters, too).

So far I only once played this quest with my guild mates (until heavy tirednees prevented me for pursueing the uest firther, because we live in entirely different time zones, but they already knew hat), and these tunnel entrances are the only place where there is real need for ranged party members.

In that quest, I took out an enemy red named ranger who was trying to kill the group's rogue who was trying to take out the traps there.

An rogue who is constantly pricked by enemy arrows just a) cannot concentrate in taking out a trap, b) is risking his life for others, c)needs to be constantly healed.

And this healing is missing in oher parts of the quest.

Simple solution : Taking out the enemy ranged damage-makers BEFORE they get a chance to wound the Rogue. It's as simple as that.

The result would be the Rogue having more than enough time to take out the trap afterwards, being in full control and full concentration, and doesn't need to be healed.

It's a matter of efficiency.

Actually, this is a matter of stone,paper,scissors.

How come your bow doesn't have a string? Rangers are as gimp as they come; I can tell you never had a barb. You’re little 137 crit is a joke. Rangers lack abilities, many shot has a 2 min cd and aside that they lack abilities like every other class in DDO. Oh wait maybe you can hit damage boost lol. Every other game I played represented archers better then DDO, I cannot understand why that is. A hunter is so much fun to play versus a ranger, they got abilities like a trap launcher, poison arrows, dots and evading maneuvers such as disengage, fain death to name a few it can also provide a group buff with true shot aura and hunting party. Please you DDO fan boys don’t get your panties wet over my comments. To me that class is a lot more playable then DDOs ranger and I think that is why there is such a dislike towards the class, it has nothing lacks real single target dps and most quests are not ranger friendly. Most people hate ranged rangers in the group because they end up chasing mobs, which they can't kill. SO you just keep telling yourself they are great if you say it enough times you'll actually start believing it.

I'm currently trying out an Artificer, and I must admit that the repeating crossbow impresses me very much.

Can't use many shot with a crossbow unfortunately.
I tried.
I'd stick with bows on your ranger if I were you. Get the Bow of Sinew, Parasitic Breastplate, Windhowlers, and the Symbiont. And you're pretty much set. A few specialized bows for certain mobs/bosses isn't a bad idea, but the Bow of Sinew works on pretty much everything.
My ranger is holding at lvl 18 now, and he's pretty darn deadly. When I get a crit with my slaying imbue and deadly weapons if an arti's in the group, it's 750 damage at least.
And many shot with both of those active, and IPS of course, just cuts the enemies down like it's nothing.
I just rolled another arti a few days ago, and I forgot how much fun they are.
Is it wrong to like both classes?

I've built all 3 types of rangers (even deepwood sniper) and pretty decent toons; if I do say so myself. Ranger is my favourite class, and once they get improvements in the update after the xpack, rangers will once again be a non gimp class.

I was soloing Framework and at the end boss.

All of a sudden the red names start dieing.

I turn around and see in the distance (I was using my elf eyes) that there is some Ranger sitting on a ledge in Diplomatic Impunity with Ilros Hrolk (his boss) and the Minotaur Chieftain (my boss) AND Hesstess (the boss of the last in the chain) all lined up with Improved Precise Shot and he was killing them all. Not even using Many Shot.

All of a sudden I hear "Sorry, playing through!" and him and some motley crew push past, loot the chest, and are gone.

Admitted, he apologized and I'm only 95% sure it was OP, but still. it was a bit rude.

Now, I have a INCREDIBLY FAST computer which is why I was able to notice this event occurring.

Most people probably just experience a small hitch in the game as OP loots chests around them.
For example, that's not lag as you approach the chests in part 4 of the shroud.

Not to start a fight, but seriously, if you've played since 06 and havent tried a ranger, go home and think about it until you get the picture, , no they arent AWESOME but they are fun as hell, and as I've played and seen, more or less the most survivable class in the game if played correclty.

Since '06 you still haven't managed to put together a ToD set for the ranger that has pride of place in your sig. You also didn't get the memo that tempest III is horribly gimped or that equipping a cloak of protection +5 to get to 38 AC probably isn't worthwhile.

Aardbark seems like a decent toon but if you don't even like him enough to have leveled him to cap in the 2-3 years since level raise then I'm not sure how relevant he is (unless he serves some peculiar purpose at level 18).

Hungeror seems the same as Aardbark and the similarities between the two characters is astounding. Is it just a result of a name change or something?

If this is the limit of your ranger experience then you really don't have a leg to stand on. You've played 1 specific style of ranger (splashed strength based tempest) and there is no evidence that you've completed any actual challenging content (shavarath accessories without matching rings is a dead give away).

The most that can be said for you is that you've run a lot of Shroud on normal, kudos.

ok kids thanks for sitting through today's class without falling asleep. let's review what we've learned.

As people from the original group (almost all of whom have posted at least once in this thread) from the screenshots will tell you, my enthusiasm for rangers derives from the fact that ive been building my arcane archer for a couple of years now, he was my first toon on ghallanda and i loved him- buuut he hasnt technically been an arcane archer in about 6 lives, his first being AA, second and third tempest, rest monk rogue and now fighter. so needless to say im happy that now im actually playing a build that i can play as a ranged dps toon. i work hard for my flavor builds.

i posted this thread as a pretty obvious exaggeration of how awesome it is to play an arcane archer, which is my favorite class in the game due to playstyle, though not particularly the best dps. (though the DPS is more solid than some would have you think, as most of them judge strictly off the 6 con pew-pewers they find in pugs without ever actually having played one.) I was also hoping to get some humorous responses to giggle at while piking at work.

you could tell he was going to be one of the greats as soon as he started posting anecdotal evidence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anecdotal_evidence) about how much more he knew about rangers than me based solely on the fact that he has been playing since 2006 and i have been playing since 2010, without offering anything solid for his arguments.

it took a bit of poking and prodding from myself and others in this thread, but eventually he took the bait, and posted how much he REALLY understands about arcane archers- two uncapped, dwarven tempest ranger splashes with tier 2 and 3 greensteel. decent builds, but obviously not enough to warrant an opinion on the matter.

that's when Ranger Troll hits manyshot, bam- critical hit on ..V.., now everyone realizes how umm... 'less smart than you think you are' you are. thanks for playing, man, and may this be a lesson for you- you're obviously pretty new to the internet.

Rangers were not always as gimp or I should say tempest rangers like now. Yes Tod, you know, I farmed ToD on my Cleric and Barbarian for 2 years and I never got the ring on either, after that I said forget it, not going to bother with it. It goes for the SoS armor for my cleric I could never get the loriks or leviks I forget which is which now completed. I just don't have the time or patience to sit there and farm 1 piece of gear for years, the game does not mean that much to me and I treated as so.
I did epics and raid other then the Shroud even though Shroud was the only raid we had for years, then they tossed us a bone and gave us ToD for another couple years. I been here since the start, even though my forum join date is 2006 I played this game before then.
Epics mean nothing to me, I ran them all and I really never liked the end game in ddo, it doesn't have one, instead the devs focused on tr's so you can re-run all the same old **** I been running for 6 years over and over. Well, it never got to the third over I cannot stomach tr-ing a character beyond second life. Might have been more enjoyable for me if I dumped all this money into the DDO store and bought all the xp pots and tomes, but that's not me. I was ViP and although I felt shafted I kept playing. So you think what you like, but I know if you joind a group I was in I'd run circles around you.

Rangers were not always as gimp or I should say tempest rangers like now. Yes Tod, you know, I farmed ToD on my Cleric and Barbarian for 2 years and I never got the ring on either, after that I said forget it, not going to bother with it. It goes for the SoS armor for my cleric I could never get the loriks or leviks I forget which is which now completed. I just don't have the time or patience to sit there and farm 1 piece of gear for years, the game does not mean that much to me and I treated as so.
I did epics and raid other then the Shroud even though Shroud was the only raid we had for years, then they tossed us a bone and gave us ToD for another couple years. I been here since the start, even though my forum join date is 2006 I played this game before then.
Epics mean nothing to me, I ran them all and I really never liked the end game in ddo, it doesn't have one, instead the devs focused on tr's so you can re-run all the same old **** I been running for 6 years over and over. Well, it never got to the third over I cannot stomach tr-ing a character beyond second life. Might have been more enjoyable for me if I dumped all this money into the DDO store and bought all the xp pots and tomes, but that's not me. I was ViP and although I felt shafted I kept playing. So you think what you like, but I know if you joind a group I was in I'd run circles around you.

So, you don't play end game and you don't TR ... you just farm normal shroud?
You've completed every epic? SS or it didn't happen.
You don't need to dump money into the store to complete a legendary life.
How do you know anything about my playing abilities or are you just referring to your tendency to kite?

blodstone is for sissies! I farmed bloodier stone for 3x crits on every hit with my silver bow of bad-a** awesomeness i farmed from orchard. Only took me 2402 tap shards!

Now every shot is 6523 hp or better, with 3x crits, and 2x multishot, 5x hits per shot, and favored enemy damage!
