A short and sweet thank you, to all who laid down to rest, from all nations who cherishes and fights to defends their freedoms, so their mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, can live in peace.

For active duty and veterans fortunate enough to still be with us, enjoying DDO as you well deserve, thank you for fighting the good fight for us, to protect our great land and our people who reside on it. For if it weren't for you, and the mightiest of warriors who laid down to rest defending our freedoms, we could not call it "our land". Happy Memorial Day!

And like the shirt says... Freedom isn't free, somebody paid.

PS: Please do not bring politics into this thread. This is just meant as an appreciation for those interested to give or receive it. Its meant for those military community of folks, family and friends that play the game.

At least it's in off topic. This has nothing to do with ddo and should never be in ddo general discussion

In a country that is filled with people that are more worried about what's happening on the Jersey Shore, it's nice to see someone that actually cares about the sacrifices of our service members.

I for one think what she does every year at this time is pretty fricken cool.

I never would have expected it on a forum filled with a bunch of gamers.

/salute Thank you for what you've sacraficed Looon375. Please consider it my course of gratitude from my family and I.

Appreciate the kind words. Truly, its just a thank you. Some feel the need to put others down for showing gratitude or patriotism in their own way... but that's ok.. it would never stop me, and thank goodness the sentiment doesn't stop those who truly put their lives on the line, such as yourself. Personally, I think as much about the families, and all the support they need during and after their significant other comes home... in addition to the support the soldier needs. When a soldier does not come home alive, or at all, that particular burden is immeasurable. It is this family's burden I think of on Memorial Day.

Thank you Leslie, Ill be there.

Hey, to commenters in this thread, have you ever been to one of Leslie's memorial events?

They seem pretty genuine and don't appear to have anything to do with green matter?

Also, this is about a in-game event on Memorial Day.
Therefore, I have no problem with this thread where ever it is posted.
Memorial Day isn't political.
Peace all.

Thanks Philly, that's exactly the way we view it. The funny thing is the in-game event, is a separate thread entirely. Yet some will make ridiculous assumptions regardless of the facts. Par for the course, its all good ;)

PS: for those wondering about the "audacity" of posting this thread several days in advance was to simply to get as much appreciation out there to the troops and their families and friends before the day comes and goes.

See ya this Monday, Philly...

There are a lot of vets who just as soon would not be thanked. I didn't join the army back in the day for the sake of thanks or in-game events.

I agree, and fully respect that. Of all the folks I know (family and friends) who serve(d) I never met one that asked for a thank you. That's in part, the commitment to country (or what ever reasons buried deep inside a warrior) aside, is the willingness to sacrifice so much, despite what others say or do or think, to this day still amazes me about a soldier.

I'm sorry if it bothers you in any way, that's certainly not our intent. I've found, however, it does mean a lot to some, and if it hits home to even one soldier (or family member) out of 10,000, than I believe it was worth it, that they are appreciated for their decision to serve and protect our way of life.

Peace...

Yes there are a good many things that don't belong in ddo general discussion. As for having to do with DDO it is a part of many peoples life. Just as DDO is. I for one served my time also had friends and family killed in wars. So show some respect here.

Memorial Day is the US way to remember, and honor, those who have fallen, gone missing, or in any other way did not return home. Veteran's Day is an entirely different day, set aside to remember, and honor, our veterans who served well.

Just an FYI - "She" is a he and so is the person he borrowed the moniker from.

Thank you to all the service personel that have sacrificed their time and sometimes so much more to give us the priviledge of living a free and mostly carefree life. We may have our problems in this country, but we are still a beacon of hope to millions of people on this planet dreaming of a better life.

Heroic soldiers around the world have lost their life defending freedom and fighting tyranny. A short and sweet thank you on this upcoming memorial day, to all my middle eastern brothers who continue to fight for peace.

I wish you had waited until today to post this instead of posting it on a day that wasn't Memorial Day, but I do appreciate the sentiment here.

I do appreciate the sacrifice of all of the troops living at home and overseas and all of the veterans living among us and abroad. I am glad that they volunteered to stand for our defense.

But Memorial Day isn't for them.

Memorial Day is for the soldiers who died.

Please don't disrespect our fallen soldiers by giving away their day to the soldiers still living.

Ya, I see where you are going with this.

The large (very large) majority of folks understand we do this for just cause, and indeed we understand and appreciate the definition, including the difference between these two very important days ("holidays" as most call them).

I am nobody to attempt to judge people's patriotism, motives or sincerity, so I'll leave that on those who wish to throw stones. That's not what I'm about.

All I do know, is I pray for all of our fallen service men and women who served this country with pride, honor, and distinction. I pray and think of their families as well, not only on Memorial Day, but quite a bit of time before and after the day. I also get a contact high when I see others offer their gratitude as well. Again, I'm just speaking for myself on this one. But I digress, it's not about me, or you, it's about them.
