View Full Version : Static Group Class Question
I am in a new starting static group consisting of myself and two others. The two others are very new players and are playing a paladin (intimi) and rogue (mechanic). I would like to solicit suggestions as to what class and build I should play. I am VIP with access to everything.
I was thinking bard, to help with DPS, buffs and do some heals, assuming hireling heals will always be present.
Thoughts?

Bard is a good choice. Since you don't have a healer, going Spellsinger and full support is viable if you don't mind almost never killing anything by yourself, though you would have good crowd control. Also, going any variation of Cleric or Favored Soul would add a lot to the party; spellcasting-focused may be the best due to your other 2 party members being melees.

Bard is a great choice.
There are also Bard splashes that are very nice to play.

I am playing now a Bard/Rogue/Artificer and having lots of fun. Very gimp and i wouldn´t recommend it, but fun.

You may want to consider a warforged wizard or sorcerer. If you can rely on hirelings for heals, it is nice to be able to heal yourself. Having access to AOE damage spells speeds up the game, too.

it's nice to have something that can heal itself or others in a pinch. do you have access to half elf? if so, your options are really expanded. on a first life toon that cleric dilly is amazing.
i do personally like the idea of a bard though, notsomuch for healing purposes (though they ARE nice.) but for haste and blur. haste is something i quickly became spoiled on lol, i cant imagine playing ddo without permahaste. (monks being the exception lol)
and regents are a whole lot cheaper than potions.
the to-hit buffs and skill song will also prove to be extremely useful in group of first-lifers since they are EXTREMELY cool in their own right and filling in some weaknesses first life toons may have. may not have the same oomph as healers as divines, or the raw power of an arcane caster, or the high, consistent hits of barbs or fighters, but they are still extremely versatile and are consistently good all the way through level 20.

Artificer is a lot of fun, if you haven't tried one yet. They have beneficial.buffs and umd for scrolls.and extended clickies.
I would go Warforged with all 3 characters. For your character I would go Wizard so you can support heal.
But really, I wouldn't have a full rogue at all. I would do a rogue splash like a 2 Rogue/18 Wiz PM and have the 3rd character go Barb or Fighter.

I like the all WF route. Maybe before we get too far along, I will suggest that path. I will take the Rog/Wiz path and leave Pally and prob Barb for the newer players.
Thanks!
