My altoholism has led me to play a sorcerer. So far I have picked the fire savant and it is great for leveling. As I reach higher level, fire spells will become less effective. So, I plan on switching to a new savant. I solo this character, so I want to pick something that will solo the best. Here are my questions:

1. At what level should I make the switch?

2. Acid, Cold or Electric?

I was thinking about electric for the immunity to knock down and I would still have decent fire spells. But is cold the better choice because of AOE spells?

Thanks for any help!

I've had great fun going Earth from 6-19 and then switching to cold at 20. I've tried all savants extensively extensively at cap (except fire) and cold just seems the most consistent at being awesome.

I tri spec cold (7/5/5 APs), acid (7/1/1) and lightning (7/1/1) which gives me excellent versatility when it comes to nuking (though if you don't run abbot then the acid isn't as big of a deal but acid rain is still an awesome spell to combo with ice storm (or firewall at earlier levels).

1. I switch at level 12, that way I can pick up the second tier at the same time.

2. I've personally played air and water savants. Air is great for taking out multiple monsters at the same time, plus it works on all undead except liches. The doublestrike ability of lightning bolt combined with a high crit rate can be really nice. Water, on the other hand, is better against single targets, since it has two powerful non-evadable spells: Frost Lance and Polar Ray. Otiluke's and Cone of Cold are nice AoE, except that the area effect for otiluke's is smaller than other AoE's, and Cone of Cold is unidirectional and close range. Ball Lightning and Chain Lightning are better for taking out large amounts of monsters at a distance before they can come close enough to be a threat.

Personally, when I was an Air Savant I loved the wings. They made kiting the mobs so much fun, and easier too.

Everyone will probably tell you the pros and cons of each savant but in the end, it's up to you. My suggestion is: try them all, respeccing enhancements is really easy and not expensive.

Yeah, but respeccing spells requires either a month and a lot of plat or Blood of Dragons.

I think i would personally go fire savant at level 6 and spec in acid and fire. Then switch to acid savant at level 12 and keep the acid and fire spec. When you're coming up to vale content i'd farm a blood of dragons out and switch fire spells for ice and spec into acid and cold. Then at level 18 switch to water savant and go with the tri spec Wax described; that's also the set up i have on my sorc.

Earth Savant acid/ice is a very nice combo.

Combine , as said , Acid Rain with Ice AoE.
Acid Rain SP cost is as same as Acid Blast.
Only first tick is respected for Reflex Save. Rest are not.
It works equally well against Trolls as Fire.
Earth school implies conjuration - > Web and Firewall are from conj. Web does not get burned out in Firewall. Web have similiar AoE range as Acid Rain.
Low level powerful (as for that level) cold spell (niac's ray) is conj.

Earth-Hug on lvl 18 is cool.

Be Earthy, i'd say.

Gianthold normal is pretty easy, full group or not and he just needs 3 of them. Since you can get 2 with favors, it's not too much of a grind.
