Medusa Snake Poison

So, I join a Siegebreaker elite run on my arti. We put the unspeakable into the water, medusa and her posse appear, we kill them.

I'm headed over to the chest, everything has been dead a few seconds and suddenly:

You have died.

What? I'm at -845. Out of the blue.

The cleric says, what hit you?

Lakhesis Zosime's poison:medusa snake venom hit you for 1,150 points of poison damage.

Whaaat?

I've tried to research the Medusa Snake Poison attack, but I can only find a reference to it as an attack from a medusa in Lords of Stone and there are no details.

Does anyone know what this is? A delayed instakill? Will poison resist prevent it? Has it now been added to all medusa attacks?

It's about 10 seconds I think before it kills you. Has a bright blue box with a question mark in it appear on your buff bar; the initial hit can do massive con damage too (I've seen -14).

Neutralize poison does cure it (and immunize against it), but the medusae in Siegebreaker have a bad habit of casting dispel, then busting out the snake poison. I think you know it's coming when they do a wind-up ranged attack with the bow, but I'm not certain on that always being the visual cue.

I too found myself dead and scrolling up through the combat log one day.

that's all neutralize poison is, pretty much, so yes.

I did see her point her bow at me just before she died, that was probably it.

ya always wear the poison when fighting those. They don't even need to melee you, that stuffs ranged. Remember the first time my lv 20 sorc was taken out by that on normal eyes of stone. Couldn't believe their was such a powerful ko attack. Then I coveted it for my ranger.
