Was there anything in the forums/notes about the tome upgrades gaining a 40% increase on top of its original price for the latest patch update?
Cause the it's gone from 600tp -> 850tp in the ddo store.

Indirectly, yes. There was a sale going on for the upgrade. This sale is now over and the upgrades are returning to their original price.

Not quite. While the upgrade was on sale, the sale price was 300tp (half of the standard 600.) Now it's 850, an increase of 250TP from the original, non-sale price

Ouch - that is a shame and I hope they reconsider. (At least I bought some at 50% off recently.) I know that unlike say, new content, this actually costs them very little to make, but at the old prices they were very nice for TRs and decent for first life characters.....

Yes the original upgrade price was 600 tp and they did a small time 50% off for 300 tp which I bought a upgrade. A price jump like that without warning might be a bug, or visual issue. Perhaps report it and see what the reply is.
The original price was indeed 600TP, which is/was the TP difference between lesser and greater tomes. I guess with all the people getting free infinite lessers from preordering, upgrades were selling briskly and they figured they could jack up the price.
lol, and right after a 50% sale on them.
To anyone from Turbine reading...
Dumb move. Make the upgrades cost the same as buying the greater with the price of a lesser discounted from it. No more no less. That way people do not get mad at the company for trying to nickle and dime people who bought a pre-order after the fact.
A few bucks < Risk of losing a customer

DIssagree.
People still buy +2 and +3 Ability tomes with no upgrade option at all.
A small premium for "upgrading" isnt a hard pill to swallow. Especially when the base item is essentially free for folks that bought the collectors edition.
That being said, I'm still glad I bought extras when they were on sale for 300.
