I got a brand new laptop, downloaded the DDO high res pack.... I have an alienware m14x with the best graphics card that came with it... Wont run dx 11.... Anyone know why?
Could be an obvious answer, but I cant seem to find it.

This one has been bugging me as well, i have an off it's head gaming rig, running twin GTX 560 Ti Cards and have never been able to get DDO to offer me the option of DX11 it has always defaulted to DX9 and refuses to offer any other option. So i would also love an answer to this one.
Try this http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35, it worked for me. It basically reinstalls the core DX11 files. Hope this helps

Ok, downloaded and Dx10 works, but not Dx11... also, my brightness/gamma/contrast sliders can be modified, but dont actually do anything.
This has never happened to me before, and this is a computer designed for maximum graphics and gaming quality.....

Try the link again, I had the same thing happen with my new Republic of Gamers ASUS, but doing the DirectX 'repair' worked.

The symptoms you describe are right out of the failed DX installation handbook. The core DX files are installed but not registered properly. I have found that the DX9 June 2010 full end-user runtime (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109) works more reliably than the web installer.
The EURT version is particularly useful in that you only need to DL it once if you save a copy. Installing it before installing any games will also prevent said games from "updating" your DX version to something "newer" which many games fail at miserably because of screwy versioning.
You may also want to make sure you are running the very latest Nvidia driver - 296.10x32 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-296.10-whql-driver.html) or 296.10x64 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-296.10-whql-driver.html) - because the previous version - 295.73 - had some issues with DX11 in several games.
Best of luck!

Try resetting your graphics. From the launcher menu, use the drop down button and choose Options. Then hit the Repair tab and click the Reset the game display settings box. Launch ddo.
