So... Is it a good idea to do your alchemical crafting on heavy shield or throwing dagger, instead of the typical boring scepters, etc.? :D

Well for a heavy shield you would need to slot arcane spell failure somewhere. I put mine on a light shield and made it crystal for 0 ASF. Then main hand as a short sword, just cause they look cool. A guildy of mine did two battle axes on her WF sorc and it looks awesome.

In short, ya, you can put it on whatever you want, but be mindful of ASF, and also large shields give armor check penalties.

Doesn't light shield + crystal still leave you at 5% ASF?

Light shield is base 5% ASF so -10% = 0.

Don't put it on a throwing dagger as you can't equip it to your offhand.

I'm wondering between a heavy shield and a tower shield for my pale master.

Heavy shield: Crystal, 5%, Lesser Arcane Casting Dexterity Cannith Crafted Gloves, 0%
Tower Shield: Crystal, 40%, 7 Fingered, 30%, Blue Augment Slot, 15%, Elven Arcane Fluidity, 5%.

I'll probably go with the Heavy but it's still a nice idea ...

Then there most be something wrong with this pic:

Going tower shield seems to be too much sacrifice for too little gain... losing 1 gear slot, 1 epic augment, several APs over like what, 2 extra DR? Doesn't sound right to me.

When alchemicals first came out the shields were broken, they all had the stats of a large shield, even though they were called different things. It was fixed in the first patch after the raids came out.

A light shield has 5% ASF normally and when made crystal it has 0%.

It's about the extra 5% DR from Shield Mastery rather than additional blocking DR. You're right that it isn't worth it though.

Yea I know you are about to mention this *lol*

And there goes away another 2 precious feat slots (Shield Proficiency & Mastery)
Heavy Shield + -15% ASF Augment + Master's Touch sounds way better (believe you know this too ;))

Nope, definitely worth it. On my wizards next life I will give up mental toughness and extend to take shield proficiency and shield mastery. With it I shouldn't have any problem taking the aggro of numerous raid/epic bosses and holding it without outside healing assuming that I can get my hands on an Anathema.

Don't need Master's Touch either way, lacking proficiency just gives you -4 AB. Surprise surprise, I don't attack.
