View Full Version : Wizard TR Sorc into a WF Evo AM?

I have capped my Drow Earth Savant, and looking to TR him into something a little more survivable, and with a little more CC capability at the epic level. Was going to try and use my PL +1 to Evocation by building a WF Evocation ArchMage.

Initial stat layout is 10/8/20/18/6/6, so at cap

INT=18 + 5 levels + 3 Wiz Int + 2 Cap + 2 Tome + 9 item + 2 ship = 41 (42 if I finally get that +3 tome)

So my evo DC should be

10 + 9 (lvl) + 2 (GSF:Evo) + 2 (GSF:Evo Item) + 2 (AM Evo) + 1 (PL:Sorc) + 15 INT = 41

Is that sufficient? What would I be using for CC, primarily - Cyclonic Blast? Electric Loop?

Right now mandatory feats would be:

Toughness
Mental Toughness (why cant PL: Arcane Prodigy be used for that the way Barb PL can replace toughness?)
SF: and GSF: Evocation
Empower, Maximize, Heighten

That leaves me with 5 more for a secondary SF and GSF, Quicken, Extend and 1 more? Not sure what would be best secondary school, was planning on maxing out the Force line and primarily nuking with SLAs and Niac/Eladar DOTs. Perhaps Enchantment to CC high-FORT/REF, low-WILL mobs? My enchantment DC would never exceed 39, would that be sufficient for something like eDA?

Was also wondering how much AP is it worth investing into the various elemental lines, repair and such, since AM does not leave a lot of AP to play with. Is it better to just max out one line, or spread it around?

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

SF enchantment is a nice addon as it opens the hypno sla and increases your cc ability by quite a bit.

I've been doing quite a few eDAs lately with guildies on my PM. My enchant DC for Dancing Ball hovers around 40/41 but I cast Mind Fog (-10 Will Save) at the same time and Crushing Despair/Hypnotism for Debuff as needed and the mobs boogie like pros.

Evo archmage is good during leveling, but is pretty bad at end game compared to necro, conj or ench archmages.
Unless you plan on TRing quickly after cap, I wouldn't recommend it. If you want to make use of your sorc PL on a more survivable arcane, WF sorc is for you.

I would recommend against playing a blasting wiz, if your gonna go into anything with a sorc pastlife i would recommend Evoker Fvs, as the +1 dc will actually help.

If your gonna do a wiz life play a human PM. Take it from someone who has played a WF evoker AM (My OG toon was drow sorc-->WF AM failbot-->human PM now). The dps is gonna be beans compared to your sorc and your not gonna have the Sp to waste on dps rotations. A wizard is infinity better suited to being necro focused and having a secondary spec into Conj for web (best cc period).

If anything go back to sorc and just be WF, you can easily get your DC's up to mid to high 30s with little effort, and still have 500plus hp+selfheals. Im playing a first life WF water savant and i can CC most epics solo. Make a helm of Frost/Silver concord ring/Eflameward/ect and get a TOD sorc ring to put +2 cha on. get your yugo favor and dont look back.

Good sorc CC options and DC helpers (best CC sorcs water or earth)
1st- Cause fear (-2dc)
1st-hypno (-5 will auto debuff)
2nd- web (works on epic mobs with high SR)
4th- crushing despair (-2all/-5 will auto)
4th- enervation (available on scrolls buy a couple hundy stacks and go to town)
6th- circle of death (1 neg lvl on fail; combo with Wail for a nice 1/2 punch)
8th- power word stun (no save 8 second stun=1.5x damage; 30second cooldown)
8th- irresistible dance (unlisted penalty to reflex saves while dancing, no save)
9th- energy drain (use alot)
9th- power word kill (no save; can be used 2-3 times per epic for a auto kill on tough fort save mobs)
