A weapon may arrive that will finally unseat the eSoS in raw DPS power. It will be completely mind boggling in numbers and look crazy cool ... and will invariably sell the next expansion single-handedly.

The contest is simple. Guess the TYPE of weapon (maul, greataxe, spoon etc.) , the raw weapon damage(2d10,3d10,10d10?! etc.), the raw bonus (+6,+7, +15?!), the crit factor(x3,x4,x8?!), crit range(20,19-20,everytime?!), material (admantium, silver, skimpy lingerie?!), and extra frills (lightning strike, holy blah blah etc.)

Whoever comes closest will recieve 3 FRDS on any server except Ghallanda and Orien (because I don't play there).

Twinkle...

Scimitar...3d6 Crit 17-20x3 or 18-20x3...but with improve Crit itll be 13-20x3 or 15-20x3 ...Force and Force Burst Damage...

Yes this is Drizzt's...Scimmy and I think they will Epi-size it with a side of Fries.

Or Wolfgar's Hammer's named Aegis Flame

Maul 5d10x4 with Force Strike (think Lightning Strike but Force Dmg) and it will be of course Greater Orc bane...

I am on Ghallanda...for 3 FRDS I will make a toon on the server of your choice and pay the money to server transfer lol.

With the advent of F2P epics, I think it's fairly obvious.

Three words: Epic Murlynd's Spoon.

Bastard Sword, 20d10, +12, 15-20, Silver, Holy, Pure Good, Holy Burst, Greater Everything Bane, Flaming Burst, Icy Burst, Shocking Burst. I think that has ESOS beat.

Spiked chain would be better

Without adding "Reach", "Attacks of opportunity" or "Weapon type has any effect on tactical abilities (IE trip)" into the game mechanics, Spiked chain would be an awful translation into DDO. Unless they pull a Kopesh, and compensate for these lack of abilities by fiddling with the crit profile...

Why would you be interested in the next super weapon? No one plays melee characters anymore. I heard so on the forums.

Meh, forget finding awesome weapons, i wanna know when we will get to roll intelligent weapons as characters. Then we can start posting LFWs (looking for wielders)

Hah!

Honestly, I always imagined "intelligent weapons" as being ultra rare (Think oldschool ion Stones) BtC on equip weapons with a specific "theme" (Undead slayer, champion of lawful goodness, Sneaky blade of sneakiness, Smashy McSmasherton), that would level up WITH your character, and gain abilities accordingly :D (Undead slayer, for example, would likely beginto develop undead bane, then disruption, then maybe Brilliance and other anti-undead effects). This could, of course, simply happen each time a character levels up OR weapons could have their *own* XP pool, so that high level character still need to "charge" their weapons to bring them to full capacity!

Of course, problems arise from such an idea.... not least of which is "What happens to the joy of finding new gear, when you have your best weapon from 1-20 level up with you".

However, my vote is now officially Intelligent Weapons! ... But only if they get infrequent voice-over's for specific triggers... for instance, the Chaotic Good themed bow "Robbin' Hoode" may proclaim "Ah ha, have at thee fiend!" once every ~200 kills of lawful evil enemies, but may exclaim "Sorry... sorry... this one is making me do it... so sorry!" when you have killed ~50 Chaotic Good enemies (Which i guess is just Eladrin, but whatevs). Given a handful of quips with enough variety of "Triggers", these could be fun additions, kinda like the Kobold voices from cove... only, y'know... not repeated every 5 seconds, and not mega-spammed when 10 kobolds all find the same trigger :P

That got me thinking about Legacy weapons, in one of our campaigns we made a group where everyone was the inheritor of a legacy item (which for people unfarmiliar with it is a weapon that acts as a minor magic item until you perform the rituals to unlock it, then its powers grow as you level up)

anyways, one of the factors was that you'd have to make a sacrifice like BAB, HP, Saves, etc that would be permanently lost as long as it was bonded to you, and would accumulate as it grew in power (to represent it drawing on and intertwining with your life energy). The amounts were fairly minor, and far overshadowed by the powers of the legacy item.

Anyways, we found that because of the items power, many of us were building our characters around it, and getting other equipment to support it and the theme it invoked; my character was a monk/swordsage that studied the Desert Wind fighting style, and inhereted the Desert Wind Scimitar. I found that I was taking abilities and feats that complemented its powers, and often searched out magic items that went well with the fire/wind powers, such as rings of elemental command (fire & air) and a carpet of flying; I had a great time looking to acquire that kinda stuff.

I guess my point is that you still have the joy of acquiring stuff, its just that the focus shifts a bit. IF its implemented right.

Epic Destroyer (Ki Khopesh)

When weilding this weapon monks stay centred when using Khopeshes*: meaning can wear another Khopesh of a different type and still stay centred.

-4d8, 19 - 20 X 3
-Metalline
-Improved Paralyzing
-Stunning + 10 or maybe sunder + 10
-Holy Burst
-Improved Disintegration (Disintegrate with twice the proc rate)

I imagine would result in alot of 12mk/6mk/2mnk - mixed with fighter sorta builds, could be fun if not a lil OP hehe.
-Heck lets throw bodyfeeder on there as well.

You can do something neat with the weapon when you're ready to TR, though. If you talk to the druid, get ready for your TR and then run VoN1 (or Relic of a Sovereign Past if you want Tesyus) and log out while you're still in the quest with the weapon equipped.

You won't get to keep the weapon in your next life, but your MyDDO screen on that past life will forever have that special weapon equipped. You could do the same with the four special Shroud weapons or with Rainbow in the Dark as well.

Hammer of Thunderbolts:

This +3 Large returning warhammer deals 4d6 points of damage on any hit. Further, if the wielder wears a belt of giant strength and gauntlets of ogre power and he knows that the hammer is a hammer of thunderbolts (not just a +3 warhammer), the weapon can be used to full effect: It gains a total +5 enhancement bonus, allows all belt and gauntlet bonuses to stack (only when using this weapon), and strikes dead any giant upon whom it scores a hit (Fortitude DC 20 negates the death effect but not the damage).

When hurled, on a successful attack the hammer emits a great noise, like a clap of thunder, causing all creatures within 90 feet to be stunned for 1 round (Fortitude DC 15 negates).

Yeah, there "could" be better, but basically you're talking a returning throwing weapon doing 4d6 damage, it's crit profile isn't all that great, BUT, and here is the important part, it would allow strength items on belt and glove slots to stack. Add this to a person with epic gloves/belt with strength bonuses, and we're talking! Lets see some halfling throwing spec'd fighters fighting in Gianthold with this thing!

Why should I bother guessing at something that even YOU don't know the outcome of. You are just as much subject to this contest's rules as we are.

In fact, you don't even know if there ever will be a weapon that unseats the ESoS. So this "contest" can just go on for years and years... forever in fact, until DDO closes down. Meanwhile everyone else is grabbing their ESoS while you just wail here.

My prediction is for there to be a epic feat to increase crit range by +1 closed to monks fighters barbs pally. Imagine the possibilities! Hopefully the super-weapon(s) come more in passive feat styles and starts to escalate and grow upon what melee combat is seen in DDO. It would be awesome to have to job to write stuff up for fantasy worlds?? Whats the job title for that and how do I start signing up? lol.

All I'd suggest is that you could do multiple weapons (khopesh/scimitar/longsword/etc) with the exact same damage and crit profile. That way someone who specializes, or simply wants to be a bit different than teh "You didn't take khopesh?" group isn't as penalized.
It's magic after all, so if a longsword does a x3 crit multiplier,it's not going to be the end of the DDO world. (I don't think)

Khopesh has a cost and a benefit. The costs are a feat (or not depending on your to-hit) and higher loot prices plus fewer end game possibilities. You don't need to have Khopeshes to be considered elite.

Yes it does, and please note for that reason I wouldn't suggest or support a design change to make all Khopeshes (Khopeshi?) equal to longswords. However a "new" item that has a X3 crit multiplier on a decently good longsword or scimitar (as long as the scimitars crit range in reduced) would not hurt the game. In fact I'd argue it would be better,a s people who use Khopeshes/Longswords/Scimitars/Clubs (why not) would all have an equivalent weapon, rather than complaining that they only ever design good weapons for other people.

I'm not saying make a longsword that is better than a craftable +5 HB of Greater Bane weapon vs Everything, but one that is about the same as a GP weapon would be fine. Same going the other way. Having a Cove khopesh with the same stats as the scimitar wouldn't really be a bad idea.

For that matter, why not make a SOS equivalent maul? Or a Great Axe? As long as you keep all the numbers the same, it should work out.

This is an absurd conversation, at least when pen and paper, or the novels are taken into account.

There's a lengthy history of 'Any-Weapon'/Transmuting items in both.
So just include a single item that can take on the profile of any weapon type.
Of course, this'd be a nuisance to code into an actual 'pick-a-form' item with differing values and traits, so just keep the same values. Here's a fun one, that doesn't involve relying on the 'magic can do anything' concept:

Epic Living Weapon
[Treated as any weapon/tower shield for benefits, buckler for restrictions (when used as a shield)]
2[1d10]
19-20/x3
Crystal, Magic

+6 Enchantment Bonus

Transmuting: This weapon can shift its form to that of any melee weapon type, granting automatic proficiency in it. Any enhancements or feats benefiting a specific weapon type are applied to this weapon. This item adds an additional 50% bonus from strength to damage when wielded in two hands. When wielded in the off-hand while in a defensive stance, this item is treated as a shield. [Does not break any restrictions, including being centered.]

Life-Leach: This weapon draws on outside life energies to sustain it. This weapon deals 1 damage per 30 seconds to its owner, and an additional 2d6 bleed damage to enemies on hit.

Symbiotic Awareness: This item forms a symbiotic connection to its owner, granting them a +2 Assistance bonus to all saves. The item's owner is immune to all sleep and confusion effects. Enemies receive a -1 penalty to their flanking bonus when applied to the owner of the item.

Vampirism

Maiming

Exceptional Seeker +2

Natural Harmony: This item shares a deep bond with the forces of nature. All druidic or elemental spells have their caster level increased by 2, and their DC increased by 1. Passive Ki regeneration is increased by 1.

Counterattack: This item's fluid nature allows it to respond quickly to threats, sometimes allowing for an immediate counter attack in response to being damaged.

~_^ Just a thematic draft for consideration.

Edit: Two posts posted while I wrote this up, in response to posts previous.

With the advent of F2P epics, I think it's fairly obvious.

Three words: Epic Murlynd's Spoon.

I must have missed something... where is that stated?

The Chuck of Norris
Nunchaku (one handed)
5d6 +10 Adamantine, Cold Iron, Byeshk, Silver, Good, Chaotic, Evil, Lawful, Slash, Pierce, Blunt, /-
Crit 1-20x2
Transmutation: The wielder of this weapon transforms into the likeness of Chuck Norris.
Chuck Norris Proficiency: You are Chuck Norris. Anything you pick up becomes a deadly weapon. This grants you automatic proficiency in all Exotic and Martial weapons. You are also able to bypass all damage reduction including untyped DR.
Ultimate Fear: Any hostile enemy is overwhelmed by the presence of Chuck Norris. When the wielder come within detectable range of an enemy, they are paralyzed for 4 seconds with no save. This effect works on monsters immune to paralysis.
The Big Bang You occasionally feel the power of the roundhouse kick you used to create the universe with and use it to skyrocket enemies to the moon. On hit, there is a small chance that the monster will be launched into the air never to return. This is not a death effect. There is no save.
I'm Chuck Norris (cicky effect, 5x per day): Yes you are. Five times per day, you can activate this effect to release your godly presence, instantly killing any enemy monsters in the area. This effect works like Wail of the Banshee with a much larger range. There is no save.

I wish you all the best of luck in guessing something that I haven't even started to design yet. I haven't yet put pen to paper to start writing up concepts for the named loot in the expansion pack.

All in due course.

Athas weapons can be inspiring DEV!

+10 6d4 metaline aligned Shuriken with a ranged doublestrike equivalent and inherent Brutal Throw + Shuriken Expertise might just be enough to bring that option up past pointless for non-focused builds. (Nah, folks'd still probably complain about having to put down the khopeshes.)

I once found a Rod with intelligence while playing the Underdark campain some years back. It asked my char "what weapon will i be?" I thought greataxe and so it was.

The weapon will be the type of weapon that the person wants it to be...when they first equip it, they get a menu and select a weapon type. Whatever weapon it is, it gets +2 to crit range (18-20 on heavy pick instead of 20) and its base dice is 3x normal. It is +8 and a DR breaker. It personally has no alignment so it will change at will to bypass all alignment DR. It knows its foe and transmutes to form edges for that purpose. Drops in chest epic with varying skins.

its called Envy.

For example:

Envy
Greataxe (3-36) 3d12 + 8 (18-20) / x3
Metalline
Aligned
Violet Augment
Colorless Augment

(there might be an "envy" in the game, and this favors certain weapons over others but something like this would be neat. Also, it could be made to be quite rare and BtC. I don't crunch numbers but I tried to make it seem useful without being op)

Epic Oath of Droaam
Great Axe (two-handed)
Equips to: Main Hand
Martial Weapon Proficiency
Minimum Level: 20
Base Damage Rating: 41.40
Damage: (14-58) 4d12 + 10 Slash, Magic, Adamantine
Critical Roll: (5%/56-232) 20 / x4
Damage Mod: Strength (+4)
+10 Enhancement Bonus: This item has been magically enhanced. Armor with this quality gains a +10 enhancement bonus to AC. Weapons with this quality gain a +10 enhancement bonus to attack and damage.
Flaming Burst: This weapon is sheathed in fire. The weapon deals an additional 1 to 6 fire damage each hit. In addition, critical hits deal an additional 1 to 10 fire damage for weapons with a x2 critical multiplier, 2 to 20 for a x3 critical multiplier and 3 to 30 for a x4 multiplier.
Keen: This weapon has an especially keen edge or point. This doubles the critical threat range of the weapon. This benefit doesn't stack with any other effect that expands the threat range of a weapon. Cannot be applied to bludgeoning weapons.
Vorpal: This potent and feared ability allows the weapon to sever the heads of those it strikes. On an attack roll of 20 which is confirmed as a critical hit the weapon severs the opponent's head from its body. This does not affect many aberrations and all oozes, who have no heads. Golems and undead creatures other than vampires are not affected by the loss of their heads. Powerful creatures may resist the vorpal strike and instead take 100 points of damage until they have been sufficiently weakened.
Adamantine: Found only in meteorites and the rarest of veins in magical areas, this ultrahard metal adds to the quality of a weapon or suit of armor. Weapons made of adamantine have the ability to bypass the protective damage reduction of certain monsters.
Incineration: This weapon stores the power of a raging inferno deep within. Occasionally, this destructive power comes to the surface, devastating enemies with massive fire damage.
Lightning Strike: This weapon stores the power of a volatile thunderstorm deep within. Occasionally, this dynamic power comes to the surface, devastating enemies with a massive lightning strike.
Disintegration: This weapon has a dark, insidious power deep within. Occasionally, this power lashes out violently at enemies and attempts to disintegrate them.
Slay Living: This weapon stores a dark and sinister power deep within. When the weapon is used, this power occasionally comes to the surface, attempting to instantly snuff out the life force of the enemy.
Durability: 200
Adamantine (Hardness: 30)
This great axe was enchanted by the Daughters of Sora Kell for the last Champion of Droaam.
Base Value: 203,020
