She blathers for a minute or more, let's us open the gate, then just stands there like a statue. Isn't she supposed to help us fight and run around and such?

If we ask her to follow us with a skill check, she says okay (or somethin) and then stays there stuck to the pavers.

Any tips on how to get her to actually engage and move?

At least she is not Coyle.

Okay, so I did some poking around:

Tesara behaves as expected on Casual and Normal difficulty; i.e. she follows if convinced with skill checks, fights back against the mobs, etc.

On HARD, she replys to Diplomacy, Bluff or Intimidate as expected, but does nothing at all after that...not following, not attacking mobs. Same bahavior happens if you don't even try to convince her to follow. She does crouch down as if to attack when a new threat comes approaches, but then just stands there taking punishment without defending herself.

I do not have a toon who can get in on Elite, so I don't know if this problem exists there.

I know most folks hate this quest, but I still want to complete it thru Elite with my Solo toon and if Tesara doesn't follow, it's verging on impossible to keep her alive.

Anyone willing to help me figure out if there's something about my approach or character type that is causing this or if it is a global bug? My char. is a WF Sorcerer Lvl 13.

Can you get her to behave normally on HARD with any other type of character? With the same character type? Is the problem repeatable or intermittent? What about on ELITE?

Thanks! Eelario

Park a hireling at the start and tell him to protect her.

You can try to kill all the mobs or kite most of the mobs around and let the hireling kill any that you miss.

There is a video of MrCow doing it on elite here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEo8so4TQAE

Good luck.

Thanks, I know about this option. In fact, I liked using it when the game was to keep the mobs OUT of the outpost, which pretty much required kiting for a solo toon.

To me, solo means that I run it alone = no hirelings. I use hirelings only when absolutely required for quest progression (needing to be in two places at one time to flip switches, for example, as in Rest for the Restless.)

How exactly do I do that? Focus on Tesara and click "gears" on the hireling's bar?

Almost!

It's a shield icon. If you hover over it, you will get the tooltip.

Although I typically find that staying inside the castle and letting them come to me works best. She's a bit of a lightweight, so it's probably better that she just stays put.

Actually, I find easier to protect her when I know where she is, instead of trying to follow her while she jumps in the middle of a crowd and gets killed.
