A few days late getting this year's thread started.
Badges been on sale for a few days now, and Housing opens today.
News of Jillian's closure will have to be discussed at some point as August draws nearer, as we ain't giving up our Friday gathering that easily.
Tolero, Cord... Is there ANY chance of seeing Turbine [officially] at the 'Con this year?

I had a great time meeting everyone last time they came... major expansion coming out around that time, seems like the year to do it!

so one of the things I know I'm having to contend with is when last I checked, gencon and gamescom were on the same weekend O_O :(

Me! And my gamer girl.
True Dungeoning too although that will be hard to coordinate at this late date.
I suspect we will not have anyone from Turbine this year though. Did you see Tolero's post? I double-checked and she's right http://www.gamescom-cologne.com/en/gamescom/home/index.php is the same weekend.
Poor GenCon. The red-headed stepchild of Turbine gaming :(
We're going to need a new meetup location. Jillian's is history.

Man... :(
(Yeah, I guess I'm a little late getting back to my own thread, but it hadn't popped up on my Subbed threads list so figured it hadn't been nudged. Sorry about those extra in-game nudges, T. :o )
So decision between Indianapolis and Germany. Yeah, that's a tough one.

That's pretty much the only reason why I haven't given in to the urge to cancel my trip this year.

I'll most likely be there, and since Jillians is gone, maybe the Tilted Kilt (think of Hooters with a Celtic setting lol)?
This site ( http://www.indydt.org/nightlifebusinesses.cfm) might help if someone else wants to look at possible places. I know The Ram always welcomes GenCon'rs with open registers...I mean arms :)

Still no location set yet? I like the idea of the Ram, but they always seemed to have a waiting line to get in while Gencon was in town. Celtic Hooters, I'm all for that. Does that mean we would all need to wear kilts?

Myself and a few other assorted Defense people are also attending this year.

The waitress' have em on, so we might get confused for "affirmative action employees" lol...but if there was ever a time to put one on, this would be it :)

My gamer girl votes for Claddaggh Irish Pub - assuming it is welcoming to a group of our size and dubious appearance :)
That or the Tilted Kilt works for me!

After reviewing some of the websites for the suggested sites I would say the Tilted Kilt looks like it may have the room. RAM, although large, was always crowded and I haven't seen less than a 30 min wait to get in during Gencon. Claddaugh, doesn't seem to have an open area that we could raid and conquer but they didn't have the best pictures of their space, they seemed to take lots of pics of the bar and not really the restaurant.
Jilllian's was nice because they had the upstairs bar that didn't seem to get overcrowded and always had space for us to come and go as needed. The most I've seen at a DDO gathering was about 15-20 so would need space for that many. Because this is an unofficial gathering we can't count on anyone taking the reigns to call ahead and reserve the space (unless someone here wants to).
Without actually being in Indy and visiting each site its hard to tell.
Does anyone know how to put in a survey to see which we would prefer?
1. Tilted Kilt
2. Claddaugh
3. RAM
My vote goes for Tilted Kilt, looks fun

Let's just call it Tilted Kilt, Friday, 8pm-ish until whenever.
Yes?

That sounds good to me! So, yup! I'll be going to GenCon this year. We'll have a bit more information about our plans in the coming weeks (where you can find us, for example), but I feel comfortable in saying that we're unlikely to host an official gathering this year. That said, you KNOW I want to have an unofficial get-together! :)
The Tilted Kilt wasn't around when I lived in Indy, but seems about right location-wise at least. I know the DDO Cocktail Hour is taping on Saturday night (in an official Gen Con event), so Friday night seems like the best night for at least some of us DDO folks.

Yes?
On my recent wandering road trip, I hit a Tilted Kilt in Charlotte.
The atmosphere is kinduv like a Scottish-flavored Hooters. (I do like those tiny girly-kilts better than orange shorts, fwiw.) ;)
Anyhow, the place is certain to be crowded, and we most likely will not get the kind of bartender attention we got spoiled by at Jilliian's.
Considering the options, tho... Sounds like a plan.

Heck yeah I'm excited...though I'm not going to GenCon proper...I'm only going to the DDO party, which is always exciting :)
I'm thinking of last year and had a problem finding the other DDO people (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=3971150&postcount=37)...Anyone got an idea of how to spot each other for the first ones that arrive and are holding a spot? A stick with a "LFG" note card on the end of it maybe LOL? Name tag with "HI, My Name Is Kick Some Axe"? :D

But some sort of sign would be a plus.

Gen Con is the only time I wear the DDO shirts garnered from previous years - especially on Gathering™ night.

If I were going I'd be asking Ferd to create one so I could have it at hand so people know where to gather and... by that token, what to expect. :)

Was quiet in the thread because I didn't realize we had decided on a place. I do have some Friday Night events but might skip one to get to DDO party earlier.

Didn't have the opportunity to go inside though. See you all on Friday.

Due to huge crowds and hundreds of bikers at the Tilted Kilt, the Gen Con player meetup has moved to Scotty's Brewhouse nearby. 1 Virginia Avenue, one block east and about one block north of the Kilt.

Bah wish I had been able to hit the meet up. I didn't even realize actual DDO reps were at the Con (missed this thread entirely.)
And here I was going to complain about the lack of serious DDO push at GenCon. I even mentioned the lack of DDO stuff to someone in the D&D 5.0 area (had to get my free dice!) and she said it was because this is more of a pen and paper Con and not a video game Convention....but but but it is Dugeons and Dragons! GenCon was born from D&D!
Anyway thanks for the free swag, guess I should've worked the DDO table a bit. My Conventioning skill needs more points invested, time to do a LR. :)
