Real quick this week.
First, we did a bug fix only patch. Hooray!
Second, we have a Bug discussion forum for Lamannia here (http://forums.ddo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=238). Hooray!
Third, the Madstone Boots kerfuffle. I just want to say, Lamannia works, and this is the proof. If you participate in the preview/beta server you may change the game. This spring especially this is going to be really helpful for all involved.
OK back to Waterworks.

If the madstone thing is supposed to be proof of how Lammania works then it would also serve as proof of how ML does not.

Lamannia works
Hey bud.
Tell that to my.ddo.com/charactercopy -- Because it just failed (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=359476) a bunch of people (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=354151&page=2) that had been waiting since yesterday, and guess what? You just lost a bunch of people that would have previewed and given out valuable feedback.
The only people you're seeing feedback from is those that had toons transferred since November. Oh yay...

Love bug fix only packs equiped with nerfs. Like mat rate in several challenges. Which are still borked. Like me running the same quest on a level 18 ranger at level 20 and get 94 mats (I can't tell you how boring the mansion challenges are) and when I run it again, only killing the one boss again at level I get 150.
Or where tier 3 level 16 challenge loot is now BTC as suppose to BTA. I'm glad I knew that was going to happen; that way I might've not stuffed the item on one of my mules.
Look. I'm thankful for everything that gets fixed, but I'm still perplexed about the things you guys break in return that I imagine no one in the community is asking for.

Maybe Turbine should look into something like this: http://brainbankinc.com/
It is an application where users can submit improvements and ideas to the 'company' and then thoes ideas can be +1/-1 by everyone else entering the site. That way Turbine knows where the playerbase wants them to focus (biggest bang for the buck), and Turbine would also get creative solutions and ideas for expansion. Make the player base your think tank (AHEAD OF TIME) and decide whats important to move forward with. We implemented it where I work this week and so far I am seeing some very good ideas :)

Indeed, you assume that I meant that as an indictment of ML players. I didn't I meant it as an indictment of the behind the scenes development process.
As in the item has been around longer then many of the people working on the game at this point so why would you rush a potentially controversial change out to the live base when you had a pre-filtered safe environment to get player feedback on if it was a good idea or not...

Wishful thinking doesn't give you the qualitative feedback you're asking for.
And it's not that it isn't working 100% right now - it's that it's working 0%. If I was an isolated case? Oh well, life sucks, I'll move on. So far I haven't heard of anyone making a character copy actually *happen* since the announcement of Lammania re-opening.
If Kookie (or whoever does it) had done a wipe since the last time, you wouldn't have any players right now. Think on that a minute, please.

We apologize that some players have had their ability to check out some of the U13 preview content on Lamannia impacted by the character copy being nonfunctional. We want it back as soon as possible, and will let you know as soon as it is available again.
In the meantime, please check out some of the non-level-specific stuff available for preview on Lamannia, if it is of interest to you.

I don't believe that Mournlands is designed to vet everything. I imagine the Nerfstone Boots was of a more organic origin to be helpful to players (albeit, from a perspective that certainly didn't take all aspects into evaluation), and the New Lamminia was their chance to vet their change. As far as I'm concerned, New Lamminia (read: Lasagna) worked. They recognized that EVERY melee player took issue because they were viewing the boots from a very different angle than how we the players view them.
I said it to a number of players in-game yesterday on Orien (in alliance chat channels, and in a Reaver's Fate raid): I'm excited for U13. I truly believe that the Madstone Boots change was a mistake, and I feel that the Devs will make it right before U13 goes live.
I have to say it now: I informed you thusly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcCJJlonIPY&t=16).

My Artificer failed on it's transfer, and now my Artificer is no longer in the list of characters to transfer.
This spells doom for players who only have one character to transfer. If they try and fail they will be locked out until a wipe is done.

Exactly, they came up with a change for some reason or another... It went onto a PREVIEW server... A mere 2 days later after PLAYER input, they've already come out and said "We're going to rethink this change, input from the player base would be appreciated" and people are complaining...
I don't get it... Isn't this EXACTLY what all the screaming has been about around the joint. I wouldn't expect everything they implement to be ammended according to player feedback. But at least they're taking a proactive stance.... I'm more than capable of tossing folding chairs at Turbine central, and have many times... But come on ;)
And despite my concerns from just last week , we had a bug only patch. That mostly fixed stuff instead of mostly breaking it.

I think what peoples concerns are about is the fact that you could presented the madstone change in written form to (almost) any group of people who are actively playing the game and they would have told you that the proposed initial version was a bad idea.
I get that they want to make madstone not prevent casting and the intention was to let anyone use it and have some penalty to spellcasting to stop the boots from becoming *too* popular for primary spellcasters over melee, but the fact they didn't take into account:
- Silver flame potions (not something I use myself, but I know people slot +6 stat and +1 exc stats in epic items just to be able to use these without being made unable to move)
- The fact that in most cases, -4 to int/cha/wis actually hurts melee characters more than casters, will saves, paladins and rangers possibly being unable to cast at all with -4 to casting stat, how much -4 wis/cha hurts monks and paladins who rely on those stats somewhat
I don't know how much time went into the design/implementation/testing of this change, but we could have saved you that time :D

it still remains possible for characters to get a high enough score even on a six starting stat to cover both madstone + SF pots. It requires more investment, but it is possible. As it stands now, its VERY easy to cover up a 6 starting stat, making all those half orcs have almost no penalty for that 20 starting str.

If you said "any group who plays melee in elite/epic end game content extensively", I might agree with you. But, the the number of people playing melees with 400 SF favor and Madstone boots is actually a pretty small subset of the player base.
Silver Flame potion users are not the norm. The vast majority of players don't run every quest in the four Necropolis packs on Elite. And of those who do, not all of them pay the kind of money that keeping SF potions in stock costs.
And without the SF issue, its not a terrible change. A little less Str/Con, but full clicky usage wouldn't bother me at all. Most paladins and rangers only have 14 Wis, but 15 or 16 is pretty easy to get with tomes. A player with Madstone boots probably isn't lacking in +1 and +2 Tomes.

So... about the field trip, does that mean I'm off the hook for not getting my permission slip signed, thereby forcing me to stay in Ebberon, getting scolded by Mr. and/or Mrs. Cordovan for forcing him/her to remain to supervise me. A field trip that probably feels like going to Disneyland for Mr. and/or Mrs. Cordovan that everyone else gets to enjoy except him/her, and ends with my resulting banishment to Kyber for all eternity? Because I have a better place I'd rather be, particularly leveling to 20 again XD. Unless by sending me to kyber, it's a chance for me to grow more powerful, to break free and seek revenge..... only to have a pesky adventurer strike me down into Kyber again.
Or Lammania, where I corrupt it from happy go lucky on my Pale Master and turn it into a second plane of undeath XD
Edit: Actually I want my own personal plane..... so if I had to choose from Kyber or a undead Lammania, I pick the undead Lammania XD

Maj, I've got an issue of... Major... importance. as we all know, in many campaigns based in Forgotten Realms, one of most basic cannon fo= eh, i mean, most basic enemy mob type / monstrous world inhabitant was goblins. I didn't seen a single greenskin goblin in Eberron unlimited; in eberron, kobolds have this sort of status. And I didn't met many kobolds in my Forotten Realms excursions.
so, my issue is, will there be goblins in Forgotten Realms part of the world? Aren't you afraid those will take your job? Will FR be an alternate universe, with goblins instead of kobolds?

Nor should you have to vet every single change with the players, as game developers, it's down to you to balance the game. But, when you take some peoples favourite toys and break them, they are bound to spit the dummy out of the pram and blame the Dev's for not thinking with foresight. :)

Sometimes it's far better to use overtime at your job to find errors in advertising that causes you to lose paying customers, and then when you have blockbuster games being released for 2 quarters of a year, it might be a good idea to make sure something works before you start to push it. Failing at this can cause you to lose a fanbase ultimately putting you one step closer to unemployment. You make us happy we give you money, you upset us we move on. I check here occasionally now to see if youve gotten a clue but it still sounds like you think the paying customers don't know what they want, and it's simple. Don't advertise a feature that doesn't work, don't use misleading ads, start using words like NOT FREE in place of premium content as your vips are supposed to get ALL PREMIUM CONTENT for free.

And bagels. Don't forget the bagels.
Only if they are good bagels(which are not available in all towns/cities).

My team does not QA advertising. Nor should it.
No but a team/management meeting should clear it..... IE: Hey folks this is the proposed advertising for the month. Does it look right? I mean to be honest the info put out by the DDO team IS incorrect quite often... It shouldn't be.... Sometimes I scratch my head thinking OK, is ANYBODY vetting this stuff? I most certainly understand how advertising works and how sometimes things aren't 100% clear, but when things are WRONG, well that's different. And a clear sign-off by the appropriate team leaders MIGHT clear a lot of confusion and frustrations.

Fixed.
And I'm sorry to hear the dev team doesn't have access to good bagels. I'm sure their productivity would increase by at least 17% if they had good bagels.

Not true, my mom learned how to make her own bagels and bialys (and lox yum!) because she missed the ones in NY so much. So if you want good ones outside NY, you just have to learn to make your own! :D

Shortest "End of the Week with Major Mal Something Something" ever! :D
Yes, I'm a few days late. I have forum catching up to do and late nights are my only time to do it now. :(

The Mournlanders did not have an opportunity to preview the Madstone boots changes.
Hm, did somebody fail a wisdom check? (no offense meant, anyone can roll a 1)

Mournlands is on an older build because of some engine changes that cannot be seen outside the building yet. We just don't have a very stable Mournlands version for them and probably wont until next week.
Engine change for the expansion?

What about the ''arrow'' reload bug. For well over a year everytime i reload 100 arrows from my quiver another 100 populates my inventory.
This is incredibly annoying. I often run out of arrows mid tanking and have to scrabble around in my backpack reloading them back into the quiver from whence they came. So is the number of bug reports i have submitted for the same thing with no response.
Unless your idea of ''resetting'' Enhancements thus ''killing'' all Bowbarians (well Crit Rage ones anyhow) is your way of solving it

As a Ranger who started with aspirations of being a Sniper before I found out it wasn't horribly viable - I have never seen this happen. I didn't even carry a melee weapon for the first few levels (yeah I know, I suck), and still regularly use my bow when approaching a target, and have never had an issue with this.
I'm not saying it doesn't happen to you, just saying that it might be something that's only happening to a handful of people, hence the length of time it is taking to find the cause and fix it.
