Tell VIPs now if they are going to have to buy the expansion so they can start saving their TP

also

Let us start getting XP for epic levels before the expansion drops so we can hop right in

The real question is can we even use TP, or will it have to be a cash transaction?

Hopefully TP. But I'm guessing it's going to need to be cash.

Don't play it myself but can't you get the lotro expansion via TP?

Yes it will be a cash transaction. Start saving your cash now.

Seriously, who cares how you have to pay? If I had to send in a pint of blood and one of my old fillings to get the expansion I'd still do it. That's what addiction is all about: giving 'til it hurts.

Yep. As a lifer I simply save my tp and bought the thing (without the frills). Cost me about 3k tp.

However, you could not pre-order it.

Probably you will be able to, but if it follows LOTRO's model it will be alot of TP compared to the price of the pack if you use cash.

Make the expansion available at least in one shop of all capitals of Europe! (And TP cards too.....)

TP cards are available in the UK --- can you really have missed all those in-your-face ads for them in-game ? :)

So you could purchase the LOTR expansion with TP? Sweet.

Don't get me wrong, I am SUPER EXCITED about this expansion and even the NEXT UPDATE! and will TOTALLY be buying the expansion this summer, even though as a teacher I'm really upset it's Mid August (right when my summer vacation ends!!!!).

But once again a HUGE slap in the face for VIPS.

First, our next update is free. Awesome for me, and all premium/F2Pers, especially at level 16, a very much needed level for quests, especially for TRs.

Second, I'm assuming that the next few months will be limited in content, I'm fine with that, but why pay monthly for nothing new?

Third, the expansion itself will most likely be an in store or online purchase, not a TP purchase, so it is no different than being VIP or Premium.

I've said it before and shown it with math, there is no convincing reason to stay VIP.

So happy I never was VIP, always been a Premium (well, for a year I held out and went pure F2P, the year before my join date, then gave in and realized the best choice is Premium.)

I say this because I realize it's the VIPs that are paying for this game. I waited patiently for the Cannith expansion, still don't own artificers, my wife's account still doesn't have monks, FvS, or artis, let alone a few quest packs and some other stuff, and we're totally okay with that sacrifice. But seriously, VIPs need some love.

I really hope they get SOMETHING better in the expansion. A huge discount... get it beginning of August and we wait a month, they'd better frigging get Druids for free! and something else would be nice.

P.S. I'm so willing to be VIP for a month just for Druids if you hold back on them, then pay an arm and a leg for them after. Just FYI Turbine. I'll pay even more if you get them done in June, when my vacation starts!

Already been officially annouced on zams website:

Lolth, for those who are not long-time D&D players, sets the stage for this summer’s expansion. “Set up by update 13, we’re going to be facing our first ever premium expansion, ‘Menace of the Underdark.’ Six years into the game it will be our first expansion; both our regular players and VIPs will have to purchase it,” Fernando told us.

Also been said it will work exactly like the Lord of the rings iseguard expansion as they were happy with that.. So far as TP vs Cash working, however that worked. Im not familiar with how they did that.

Until turbine says it on their site clear as day no ones going to accept it and even then... and since no one from turbine has said anything but "premium expansion" most people are going to be left wondering whats up and likely not save their TP and then when it finally drops there will be 50 VIP threads complaining.

lol. I dunno about "most people"

I think most people will take the word of a respectable site like zam for what it is.

And theres also common sense.

When has a mmo ever NOT charged everyone for a full blown expansion..

Never.

Thats almost the whole point of calling it an "expansion" rather then an "update".

with something as small as U12 costing 15 bucks, expect to pay $30-40 for underdark.

Though far as turbine points goes, i'd say its a safe bet to say the expansion purchase itself will include some turbine points much the same as isenguard did. ~500-1000 included with purchase.

lol respectable site like zam? I've never seen or heard of it till today and I spend most of my life in front of a computer for one reason or another. I bet 99.9% of the player base wouldn't consider it a respectable site.

edit: ah formerly alakazam, have heard of that guess thats what they get for a stupid name change :D

Didn't MMORPG.com say that the Menace of the Underdark and the quests released around it were going to be free to play?

VIP's BETTER get it for free, or else this game might as well go down the toliet.

I agree that there should be a headstart of getting epic levels, but to cap at level 25 before the content is released? I am not too sure about that...

I agree that there should be a headstart of getting epic levels, but to cap at level 25 before the content is released? I am not too sure about that...So, you are saying that should limit what they add to the game to what there revenues will cover? Because they sure aren't going to do anything as ambitious, and expensive, as what this expansion seems to be if it's going to cost more than what they are likely to gain from it. That's just bad business.

So we have the choice of getting a nice new expansion that we can choose to pay extra to play or not getting it at all. Getting it without paying extra just isn't likely a feasible option.

It's already been stated that VIPs will not get this for free, so grab some TP and get ready to flush.

This is a huge addition to the game and a sign of things to come. I will happily pay for this expansion and my wife has already said I could :P

In another thread I hunted down some info on the way LOTRO handled Isengard. I'll repeat it here:

For LOTRO, the Isengard expansion was expensive in the store (compared to the real money prices). In real money, it was $30-50 depending on what extra fluff you wanted to get with it. In the store it was much more. The fan site for LOTRO (http://www.casualstrolltomordor.com/2012/01/lotro-store-rise-of-isengard-expansion-bundle/) I visit a lot summed it up like so:

That being said, let’s break down what the value of buying the entire expansion with Turbine Points is. Individually in the store the pieces are sold for these prices:

Expansion Quest Pack: 3250 TP
Instance Cluster: 1495 TP
Draigoch’s Lair (one of the raids): 1250 TP
Skirmish Trait Max Rank: 195 TP
Total = 6190 Turbine Points if you would buy them all separately.

Eventually they offered a bundle in the store (including everything) for 4995 tp. The link covers a lot of it.

Do keep in mind that they held off selling it in the game store for 2-3 months. If you wanted to play the expansion sooner, you had to buy the real money pack.

To answer your other questions:
Everyone had to buy it, including VIPs

10k points in my account still... doubt it'll be much more then that, lol. But yes, new pathc somewhere in february, level 16 free to play pack (which is awesome, f2p needed content around that level a lot, now just something level 18 ftp and it's all good :D ) and the u13 stuff/underdark/fearûn somewhere in the summer, unknown timeframe so far.

I have a big feeling this is premium expansion will be bought not with TP but with cash. I can't imagine them spending all that time for something we can get for free.

And hey I'm ok with that.

A quick glance at their site shows its pretty professional.. And the fact Turbine contacted them to give them a first scoop interview is another solid reason.

Also turbine has realsed information to ZAM in the past and it's always been accurate.

Then theres the more important reason of me saying it which makes it legit:
Everyone that wants to play the expansion, will have pay for it with cold hard cash, not Turbine Points.

I'd wager theres a good chance they will later offer it, or parts of it on the DDO Store. But initially it will be not be, and only be purchased either retail/etail or myaccount.turbine.com, not ingame.

We don't know that for sure.
With a certian other F2P game by Turbine it was available on the day it was released in the in game store for Turbine Points (4995 to be exact). And you could pick and choose what pieces of it you wanted (not sure those options were available on day 1 but were there shortly after.

I think the word Expansion says it all. I cannot ever remember a single game MMO or not that released an expansion that did not cost more. As a fan of Age of Empires for example, i have had to shell out 50 per expansion many, many times.

I think we are luck to even have the offerings we do. Most MMO expect a monthly fee and Charge for all the expansions.

The real question is... how bad do you want Druids? How bad do you want 'EPIC' levels? and after seeing those cameo shots, how bad do you want (to kill) Lolth?

I agree - i mean in her original writeup in Q1, didn't she have like 66 hitpoints or something like that (well she had more in spider form) , that is like Hordo dps - one swing. We know that ddo implementation will have 666,666,666 at least.

Also, we do not have a place for a deity on our char sheet... or i do not know where it is and it clearly states that anyone who does not have a diety written on their char sheet only has a 5% chance to jump through one of the Mirror of the planes (and i think 2 mirrors were regular mirrors... its been over 20 years) or you die instantly as the plane collapses ... or maybe my dm made that up... will need to reread the mod later tonight.

I just hope you load this up and all the drow become evil... or in the case of my drow, and anti-paladin dedicated to the spider queen mother. it is a good thing I still have my drow translator linked because i am sure all the elitist rp folks will hang in the UD and only talk in the native tongue..
