View Full Version : What Doesn't Festival Icy Burst Stack With This Year?

Hey guys, been out of the game a while.

I was wondering what the Ice Games icy burst upgrade stacks with this time around. A year or two ago I remember people stacking it with other elemental bursts, like flaming burst/icy burst combos and things. Before I use mine, I was wondering what exactly it works with this time around, and if anyone had some ideas of fun things to stack it with?

Doing it on a monk, by the way, so handwraps would be cool, though I have other characters (rogue, bard, artificer).

Any help/suggestions is appreciated! Thanks.

Well it doesn't stack with Icy...

Tested that...

and you can't even attempt to put it on Cannith crafted weapons, Alchemical weapons, Greensteel weapons or any named weapons.

Can you still do the, for instance, flaming burst/icy burst combo?

As long as the flaming burst weapon isn't named or cannith crafted, yes.

I don't see why not. I haven't tried that particular one yet, but icy burst stacked with every other prefix I have put in so far (holy burst, paralyzing and metalline). I do have a flaming burst I am going to icy up, but I was waiting until the last day to collect as many kits as I can.

Eh, it's silly they won't let you put it on Cannith crafted weapons. Now it increases the ML of the item as well... Almost useless, really.

What? Risia icy burst increases the minimum level of the item?

Not true. That was a rumor.

The barter UI for the Risia altar shows that same "...will increase the minimum level of the item by..." that the Cannith crafting altar does, but after Icy Bursting a ML12 Paralyzing Repeater I can verify that it does NOT increase the ML.

You cannot put Cannith crafted weapons into the Risian altar at all. It won't even let you attempt to add any of the recipes to Cannith crafted weapons.

Same with Greensteel, named and Alchemical weapons.

This is awesome news! Now I don't have to worry about the fact i cant' make the stupid jumps no matter how many times I watch the various videos! If i cant' use it on cannith crafted gear, its completely useless to me, since my random loot drops are always amazingly poor - so i craft every weapon I need now (with the exception of paralyzers or smiters and the like, which my monk has a few of - but none of my other characters do since they never drop for me, and I'm not paying the AH prices).

Sweet. I can forget about risia completely now.

I've crafted icy burst on a +5 shock bastard sword (ML10) and it didn't change the ML.

The description on the altar is indeed WRONG.
It seems it's been recycled and left unchanged when they implemented the new barter UI.

You can craft on any non-crafted (whatever form of crafted: greensteel, cannith, alchemical), non-named items.

You can have a risia effect and a stone of change effect on the same weapon if they haven't changed that (verified last year).

I've found that most of my Icy Burst kits drop for me in the end chest in the Shroud. They're mislabled as large Shroud ingredients, but there are lots of helpful people in the Harbor who are happy to help fix that and turn them into the Icy Burst kits that they were supposed to be.

I only bother Icy Burst-ing some nice Handwraps that I have and a couple of low level weapons for TR'ing because Cannith Crafted weapons have ML problems for the first couple of levels.

I pulled a set of +5( silver threaded of pure good wraps last night. I will be putting an icy kit on them. They are not named so it should work. However, the only thing that might keep me from doing that would be that the monsters I would use them on might not take ice damage. Might be better to save the kit....

Icy burst on a +1 force burst of pure good handwraps is very nice but those handwraps are rare.

If you put Icy Burst on those wraps, you can still send them through the Cannith crafting altar to turn into +5 Shocking Burst of Evil Outsider Bane (if you already have your ToD ring for Holy) wraps when the time comes.

You can't put Icy Burst onto a Cannith crafted weapon, but you can send do Cannith crafting onto a weapon that has been Icy Bursted (although you will obviously lose the Icy Burst in the process).

Edit: Also, congrats on the otustanding pull. Silver wraps are really hard to find.

For me, I think the standard candidates for Icy Bursting are still the same:
Vorpals (just to Frost depending on weapon type crit profile e.g. Kama),
Banishers,
Disruptors (The Enemy Within doesn't justify not doing so),
Smiters(doesn't hurt and helps on Clays),
Paralyzers,
Wounding of Puncturing and other stat damagers.

i.e. Mostly stuff you're unable to Cannith Craft anyway, save the WoP and other stat damagers, which I only wish I'd kept a few lootgen versions of lying around.

There is text to that effect, but, at this time, it does NOT.

I personally tested in, and asI tested it I linked the weapon in advice chat for everyone to see and follow.

The weapon I Icy Bursted was a ML 12 weapon.

The ML 12 stayed there after cold touch.
The ML 12 stayed there after frost.
The ML 12 stayed there after Icy Burst.

+1

Most my characters have either named weapons for most situations or canith crafted weapons. I won't be needing any icy kits.

For those of us who TR alot, sticking icy burst on a lower level weapon certainly makes those low level fly by. I have an +2 icy burst, acid rapier of PG that is lvl 6 and a race restricted +2 Holy Burst, Icy Burst rapier that is lvl 8. (You can get improved crit at 8).

I can imagine these would do well on Falchions and Khopeshes as well.

I speculated that the incorrect (typo) descriptions came from borrowed code here: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=356717

Don't you want icy burst on your paralyzers and smiters?
