Upgrading to Red Dragonscale

I was wondering if when you go to upgrade your dragonscale of whatever color to Red scale does it have to be the same type of armor like blue robe to red robe, or can you choose when you craft it lets say from blue robe to red docent?

The armor type stays the same when you upgrade to red, you do not get to choose a different type than what the blue/black/white was.

Fairly certain it stays the same armor, since of the ingredients used to make it the only thing that would be able to define the final armor form is the blue/white/black dragonscale X.
