I have a dwarf cleric (lvl 6 cleric, lvl 1 fighter). Right now my concentration's total mod is 17.5 with a 9.5 rank. Apparently I somehow managed to get a half a rank in this stat on some level. Is my character permenantely screwed up or can I fix this somehow? From something I read having half a rank is a stat will prevent it from being maxed out.

When you took your Fighter level, you most likely took a rank in Concentration. On skills which are not class skills, you get a half rank for each skill point spent and Concentration is not a Fighter Class skill. This would also happen if say you took Jump on Cleric where you would get only half a point while on Fighter you would get one full rank of Jump for the point.

It is fixable I guess if you splash another level of a class that doesn't have Concentration as a class skill where you can just throw in one more point to get another half rank. If this is your first character though then it isn't a big deal having a half rank in a skill at end game. It will just be whatever the rank is rounded down - a wasted skill point mind you but nothing to dire to worry about.

You could be fine

it means on your fighter level, you didnt put the 2 points in it to make it even. next cleric level - put enough points in it to even it out and you will be fine.

Could be fine? No, it will be fine.

A .5 in concentration (missing or there) is akin to dropping a penny in the parking lot.

Thanks, that's what I must have done. I've been putting 1 point into Con and 1 into Bal for each level. I didn't know that the fighter level was different. Oh well so I guess I won't be able to max out Con. I'm not going to recreate or anything, only losing 1 point isn't going to affect performance much.

dont stress it.
1pt in concentration is nothing to worry about. anyway chances are you'll do a TR on it at some point so the issue will get fixed anyway :)

Most clerics take quicken anyway so there is no concentration check for the most important spells. I personally like to have quicken at lvl 12 although some take it at 15 and others at 18. Regardless of when you take it I highly recommend it for a first life.

^ This.

Of all the mistakes you can make, this is probably the absolute smallest deal.

In fact, it's not even a deal.

honestly... is there something you want particularly out of cleric level 19?

if not, just grab a second level of fighter, and it will resolve itself.

Yeah. Concentration is overrated skill anyway.
