View Full Version : Eardweller Drop Chance Raise?

I know that there is a thread devoted to the Xachosian Eardweller and that the drop chance is 1.5% on Hard and 3% on Elite.
Question is, was the drop chance upped after the new updates? Took me 31 runs on cleric and 25-30 runs on sorcerer (elite runs) to get it. Told a few friends about recently, so two of them went off and about 20 minutes later both of them had it. It dropped 2nd run (on hard) and 3rd run (also hard).... Two runs in a row at 1.5% seems very unlikely.
Another friend asked and I told him as well. About 10 minutes later he sends me a tell linking it, saying he got it on first hard run.
So any confirmation that the drop chance was upped? 1.5% and 3 drops all within 3 runs seems nigh impossible. Don't want to sound like I'm QQ-ing about this but, for all the people who REALLY worked hard for it, great. But if the drop chance is so high that it becomes a normal item that everyone has, what's the point?
Also, any specific way to talk directly to the devs about this? Would love to know why the drop chance went up (assuming it did).

-Thanks

While the drop rates you stated are correct, the chances are not cumulative or additive.

You could do the quest once and get the eardweller, or do it 300 times and never see it.

A dev commented a while back that the drop rate was upped (and it was added to other quests) because they realised how boring solo grinding Eye of the Titan elite was becoming.

Now it's suspected to be around 10% in the optional chest of Dreaming Dark elite (and noone really knows about or cares about the other quests as DD is much faster).

Understood completely. I just find it odd that it dropped 3 times in a row with a 1.5% chance.
That's a 0.000003375% of a 3 times in a row drop. Possible? Well of course. Probable? Absolutely not.

Holy (cuss words here) That's outrageous. Why don't they just up it to 100% and give it to everyone without any work at all!? Its a good item, it should be hard to get. Heck they should just make it min level 5 like ioun stones and make it drop in Korthos!!

/stops rant

That's still outrageous, but thanks for the clarification.

No, it's a godsend.

Farming Eardwellers the old way was one of the most boring things in DDO.

This is a game, i.e. something meant to be entertaining. Mindless repetitive grinding of easy quests has no place in that at all.

I'd rather they made it a high drop rate from something quite difficult, like elite/epic Lord of Blades, so getting one requires skill, not patience.

I'm not sure that farming an eardweller can be described as completely lacking in skill. I recently farmed 2 for each of my characters at about a total of 30 runs and I quite enjoyed honing my mario skills and learning the most efficient way to instant kill some quite high fortitude save enemies with a variety of spells (ED, CoD, FoD, Wail, CDespair etc).

Particularly resource management was quite tricky as even a couple of saved against FoDs could see me without enough SP to even drop a firewall at the end (and going back to shrine was a no-no as you want to run again after).

This was on elite with a first life character mind you so probably would have been a walk in the park on hard. I was quite proud to be able to get about 8 runs in from 1 load of ship buffs (for an average time of 7.5 minutes/run all inclusive).

I didn't over do it either, just did 1 hour of it first thing when I got on and then went and did something else. I think it took me about 3-4 days to get both.

I dont know that other quest and titan is just straightforward :) Not big problem to solo it with FVS :)

suit yourself, but the dreaming dark quest is also straightforward once you know it, faster, easier, and probably has a much much much higher drop rate.

Got it today, my 10th run but I have few questions. Will it drop again if I already have it? When u kill the bug and t-bag drops, are all party members allowed to loot that (like epic t-bag) or?

Drops again of course. It's even possible for 2 to drop in 1 run. I had my toon with the earsdweller farm a second one and then had a guildy hold the instance while I swapped to the toon that I wanted it in. I think the timeout is 5-20 minutes (not really sure, just be FAST).

But if its 1 tbag, can 2 ppl loot it or will it disappear after first 1 loot it?

only 1 person can loot it, disappears afterwards.

So does hard difficulty have roughly a 5% chance of dropping it? (Not good enough to farm elite yet -_-)

Also, if I ransack the optional chest, can eardweller still drop? I've never seen one drop yet, and have no clue how it works ;P

I got it from Eye of the Titan on hard, took all of 4 tries.
What happens is that once you open the chest a little critter comes out of it and when you kill it a treasure bag appears on the ground, which is your Dweller.
