View Full Version : Wind elementals, seriously

The title says it all. Fighting these buggers is a real pain and I've actually started to avoid quests where they appear. I seriously think it would be nice to tune down the knockback effect so that you don't get locked in a knockback loop when you fight two or more. Fighting even one is slightly irritating, but when coupled with other monsters it's just painful to watch your prone character being thrown around and getting his ass handed to him by trash he'd normally wipe the floor with.
The wind elemental AI seems to have them stationary for quite a while when casting, and I think it would be nice if this time was prolonged. Also, because of lag it feels like you only get a few hits in on a melee before you get thrown around, so maybe it would help if there was a timeframe for the knockback. Like a 2 second period before the knockback hits you when you're in range.
I know I'm not the only one hating current wind elementals and would like to hear some feedback from others.

I absolutely HATE Air Eles, but I've come up with a couple different ways to fight them now.
My clerics try to not get anywhere close to them, and either Dismiss/Banish them, or else hit them with Divine Punishment or kite them through Blade Barriers. I've given up even ATTEMPTING to melee them - I always end up on the ground. The Air Ele rare in the sands is a huge p.i.a., but this strategy has been working reasonably well.
My Rangers try to range them with a paralyzer first, then run in with an elemental bane (or a paralyzing) melee and finish them off.

Agreed. Air elemental knockdowns happen way too often. So yeah, if you look at it from a "Realistic" PoV, they are living vortexes, so of course they will knock you down every time you are near them, but come on... that's just too much.

Interesting. On melee when you paralyze them they still knock you back every approach. Tested exhaustingly in Vale.

I'm not a fan of this either.
I still like the air elementals as they are now because they were just a total push over before.
Paralizer still gets them but they shouldn't be able to push you around when they are paralized.
I'll still take them as they are now over what they were any day.

I'm sorry but I have to laugh at this a little......the great players were dealing with "real air ele's" just fine long before they tamed them down into training dummies.
Ask your friendly vets how to deal with them.....honestly they have been broken for quite a while.....it's good to see they are not just "pushovers" anymore.

They nerfed them once before. Obviously they either changed it or broke it doing something else.

When fighting them in melee, I found that there is a distance you can stand where you can still hit them with your weapons but their knockdown effect doesn't hit you. You just have to slowly approach them (hard to do when they are mobile I know) and swing at them from the farthest range you can. They will twitch and move causing you to get knocked down but you can get in quite a few hits inbetween. My Fighter has killed tons of them in Reaver's Fate with this strategy.
Did you know that Air Ellies encased in Jade Prison still knock you back?

Apparently the initial nerf was not working as intended. It only took them... over a year to realize it.
(Technically, it was still working if you used sword and board, but since those are rather rare, most people never noticed)

Personally I'd just like to see them NOT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING WHEN PARALYZED. Seriously, they're "paralyzed" and still knocking us down? Same with disco, hold, earthgrab, etc. What is up with that? That can't be WAI!
