You have a splash screen that shows someone hunkered behind a shield that is blocking a red dragon breath attack. I want a shield that will do this.
What I consider one breath attack would be Velah sweeping her head side to side. She breaths in once and breaths out once, granted it is a long breath but she has large lungs, so this is what I consider a single breath attack.
To gain the ability to benefit from the blocked breath attacks, you should have to have the shield proficiency of the shield type you are holding. For example, if you don't have the ability to use a tower shield without penalty, you do not get access to the special abilities of the dragon scale tower shield since you cannot use a shield properly without incurring a penalty. If you took the proficiency to use tower shields without penalty, you should have full functionality of that tower shield. This is meant to be something for sword and boarders, not every character that just picks up a shield.
3/day charges absorbs a breath attack from that color dragon. Red blocks a red dragon breath attack, etc. This should not absorb fire elemental or any other fire attack, it is supposed to absorb DRAGON BREATH ATTACK ONLY.
10 exceptional resistance. It should stack with regular resists. So if you have a red shield, it gives 10 exceptional resistance to fire that will stack with the resist fire spell.
Put whatever else you want on there.
If you make different sizes, give them different extras if you put extras on them but, they should all be able to absorb at least one breath attack and have the exceptional resistance. I do think that a buckler should only get 1 charge and a tower shield should get 5 charges. The smaller shield has less residual magic since it has fewer scales compared to the tower, but I'm not too picky on this.
Make them exclusive so that you can only have one of that particular color scale shield. You should be able to pack a blue, white, red, black on your character but you should not have several red shields of various sizes. If you have a red scale tower shield, you cannot carry any more red scale shields.
Currently, there really wouldn't me much use beyond scale runs and Velah and even then, Velah gets in more than 3 breath attacks on epic and any other difficulty she goes down so fast it really wouldn't be much use. I'm thinking ahead to a day that you put in more dragons to fight and am hoping that it is more active like the TOR dragon fights. Velah isn't very active as far as movement since you just beat on her nose and duck to the pillars when someone yells fire.
We also need green dragons so I can get a nice rich green dragon scale robe for my haggle bard. :D
