I've been gone for DDO a year, and I just got back and TR'ed my monk into another monk. Then I discovered this absurd change.
Why is that? The only real good thing about stunning fist was the crits, which monks have normally extremely low chance to get.
It now makes Elegant Crane into a completely horrible path, and dex-based monks cant get a good amount of ki as there was. Same with the amount of damage... dex monks needed the crits to rely a good amount of damage. Without them, they might as well bury wind-based monks.

If you've been away from the game for a while you should always check all the update release notes until then and that way make sure you know how the mechanics have changed since every update seems to change the game a lot. In other words, yes stunning got nerfed some updates back to prevent the "autostunns" (especially end game) but then again all the stances got boosted on the latest release 12.

Yeah been this way since update 9. All helpless/stunned/held mobs take 50% more damage but no auto crit anymore. no bursts or blasts either unless you actually roll a crit on them well helpless. They did this to stop the hold/mash tactics that some were using. It pretty much effected all our heavy pick epic builds and stunning barbs , fighters and monks. It is still a alright tactic but not as good.
Now we just pike well the wiz fingers/wails and the divine implode and destructs. Welcome to u12.. A lot has changed since you been away..

I just found it. Horrible business...

O.o
So now melee is even more useless than before? Now we gotta rely on arcane and divine magic to beat stuff? ... awesome =/

Im sorry, how were they boosted exactly? Or just link me to the release notes about that.
Previously the elemental strikes got reduced to 5 ki each no matter what tier you throw.
Some stances just got an update in 12. Water gets a dodge bonus to AC , earth got something in 12 as well. Last update earth got a +1 to crit multiplier in tiers 3 and 4.

Yeah dex monks got borked a few updates ago. Sure the auto crit/crane was stupid Easy button but I think they got nefed a bit too hard.
It was a needed change for the mass hold/ heavy pick feat that was epic but as a not-completely intended side effect the last remaining finesse build got kissed goodbye.

It's not that bad, stunned mobs take more damage of all types, combat, elemental strikes, elemental damage on weapons, Touch of Death etc. The biggest loss for a monk is the ki generation if you were on Crane path. So no, not the end of the world.

I never had a monk until U9, so I don't even know what the inflicting autostun was like (outside of hitting the held mobs by Mass Hold on other melees). I've been playing since U2... wow didn't realize it was that long, I had to check. But my first level 20 was only 2 or 3 updates before U9, so I didn't really get used to the old epics.
I CAN tell you that with my first experience with stunning, after U9, it's amazingly useful because the damage bonus is still a large boon and I find even immobilizing the enemy is worth the investment. It allows healers to nearly ignore me on my monk, and my trash DPS is quite amazing. Don't look at changes on the negative side, look at what you have left and what is better.

OP is right, that it makes crane path useless now. . .BUT
this quote is wrong. it's 50% more dmg from ALL sources. aka spells, tod burst rings(even when not a crit), damaging prefixes/suffixes, etc.

NOT sneak attack, I believe I saw a dev comment on this. Maybe there are some other things but I think just sneak attack is excluded.

It’s not *completely* horrible. (Though the devs could stand to get off their duffs and do something about the completely borked ki generation system they now have in this game.) It's a straight 50% more damage. And it affects stuff that is normally not crittable. (ex. A Jade Tombed elemental or Undead creature.)

Note that along with the change, Crane path had most of the Fortitude penalty removed.
It would be good if they changed it so +50% stunned damage also applied to Ki generation.

Like that's new.
Even before the update you still needed to have at least one divine to keep the group up.
Unless you're saying that you did multiple all melee shrouds before the updates?

Extremely low? I don't consider a 15% crit chance to be extremely low. And 3x dmg in mountain stance. And 2d14 properly equipped. And I stun almost every time.. And the only real good thing about SF is the stuns.
+50% damage per attack - not just crits.
SF DC is 38 = 10base +10lvl +8 wis mod +10 wraps fort save.
SF DC is 41 with one Improved Sunder hit, 44 with 2 Imp Sunders, 47, 50, 53 max with +8 wis mod.
Kukan DC is 44 = 10base +20lvl +4 cha mod +10 wraps will save.
