I am restarting my WF Artificer and wanted some input.

STR 9
DEX 16
CON 15
INT 18
WIS 6
CHA 6

Where should I put my level points into?

I will be mainly using repeater crossbow, some magic and a bit of melee

My artificer started 8 / 17 / 16 / 17 / 6 / 6: I feel bad about dump-stating STR and not having max INT, but I wanted to take Imp Prec Shot (hence base 17 + 2 tome) and didn't want to gimp CON. Here's the build I'm using:

Only lvl 7 so far, but it's going well enough. Not sure what to take at lvl 18; SF Evo is mostly just a placeholder.

If going pure, you will want DEX at 19 by level 15 so you will qualify for Improved Precise Shot, which means you will need to...


Eat a +3 tome
Eat a +2 tome and use 1 of your level ups for DEX
Pump 3 level ups into DEX (not recommended)

After choosing one of the above, all other level-ups should go into INT.

There are probably other opinions, but I cannot make a ranged character without IPS :eek:

I went with Helf as my race so that I could eat a +2 tome and spend 2 APs to increase DEX another point to get to 19.

I dumped STR as well and although I hate getting Enfeebled and Burdened, I just couldn't justify spending points on a stat that would be mainly useless :o

With 414 base HP and 975 SP. I didn't plan on using Imp Precise Shot considering how Im playing my Arty. Melee vs Xbow depends on situation for me. IPS would be great, but I would have given up too much in other areas just to get that one feat.

Mine is now level 20, one of the best and fastest of mine to get to level20. Love em. Ok I went Dwarf.

You CANNOT use enhancements to qualify feats it has to be 19 BASE Dex which only includes your starting stat, tomes and level ups..nothing else.

Your best option is to start 16 dex (unless your a halfling, elf or drow) than acquire a +2 tome and take +1 dex as your lvl 12 stat boost as that 17th point of dex is expensive

Also at OP there's little reason to go WF unless your doing a melee arty the spells are nice and so is the self-healing but really not worth losing the benefits of other races. UNless of course your going WF for the sake of being WF than by all means go for it.

Note: When an Arty uses pots, wands etc. the increased CL will increase their effect ie. Barkskin +3 becomes Barkskin + 5 on a Arty with the capstone (A lvl 18 arty gets +4)

HOLY [moly] :eek: Seriously!!! I thought that DEX Enhancements did increase the Base. Curses! Thanks for the heads-up :o

Well, I suppose I'll be using my 12th level stat increase for DEX to qualify for IPS :(

Erm really? Dwarves have a max starting int of 18 and with your other starting stats the best int you could have is 16 leaving you 1 point to spend elsewhere..... assuming you have 32 point build. So how did you start with these stats please?

Well aside from the impossible starting stats he also fell in to the trap that many ranged builds fall into...for some strange reason he wasted resources feats, stats, etc. on melee.
