You buy them from the Artificer character creation screen.

well you can get cheap copy of artificers dog with with enhancements http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Enhancement:Iron_Companion

It isn't near as good and pukes grease which annoy party.

If you are a new player and pondering about the idea of getting this puppy and using it, I have one advice for you: dont use it in groups, ever. It has the ability to puke grease under the party, and unfortunately the party members are not immune to the slippery effect and will fall helplessly to the ground, with the (often) better saving kobolds hitting them in the groin!

You might not want to be the cause of this...:)
