View Full Version : Mabar, Eternity, Lag, and You

Folks, the sole purpose of the levers in the mabar dungeon is to turn the light in the altar room on. The sole purpose of the light is to make it so it's easier to hurt the dragon. The sole purpose of the gargoyles is to turn off the light. Now the gargoyles will spawn in massive amounts to accomplish that mission. As a result, the game lags while they spawn.
Now, there is no real reason to switch the lever on when the dragon isn't in the room that lever is connected to, doing so just spawns gargoyles which strengthens the lag monster.
I have to say, in the mabar dungeons I've been in that the lag has slowed everyone down to not being able to move, it's been because some "helpful soul" (yeah, we'll call it that) has decided to pull the lever constantly.
So to recap: Don't pull the lever unless the dragon is in that room!

I'm not going to express my opinion on it, just going to shed some light. Some people (casters a lot) like to have the lever pulled because the gargoyle spawns drop a lot more of the turn in collectibles you can get outside prior to the instance opening. It is a way to keep on collecting even as you earn your scale.

I know, and it is a good way to get items, I agree, but on the other hand, it also causes a lot of the lag you see in there (eternity causes a lot itself). So I'm trying to spread the word a lil, because based on the amounts of people that still spam the levers and complain about lag at the same time, I'm not sure everyone understands the trade off eh?

Instead of timing the lever-dragon with all the lag I keep it always on. Symbol of death/circle of death/wail of banshee and after say 5-10 sec delay they drop dead. One disco to prevent the rest from touching it, and yes it's good u still getting collectables for turn in. Same goes when I'm down in a room. The dragon jumps from room to room in a matter of seconds.
Don't blame players for lag, blame turbine for having lousy servers.

I think it is more a matter of mass disco balls in 4 separate rooms and on levers along with lame arty dogs, blade barriers , symbols, fogs, firewalls and a ****load of pets.
Usually have no problems killing mass gargoyles but when each room is packed with casters, you just know its gonna be a lag fest and a half...

Hehe, it won't fix all the lag, but imo, lag is like turbine leaving a hot stove on. You know that if you do certain actions (such as touch the burner) it's going to burn you. Now how many times are you going to touch the burner before taking some of the blame on yourself instead of just constantly blaming turbine for leaving the stove on?

If you encounter a serious lag spike, or continued lag (hitching, spells not landing, rubberbanding, etc.), try Alt-Tabbing out of the DDO client, and then Alt-Tabbing back in. I was in a Shroud on Orien recently, and crippling lag set in. It seemed to be affecting every person in the raid. On a whim, I Alt-Tabbed out of the game, and then Alt-Tabbed back in. BAM!! Lag was gone! Just like effing magic. Something to consider as a workaround to try out. This might speak to the a tie to the ellusive DDO Client memory leak.
Also, please participate in my hardware survey thread here (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=347729). I'm trying to gather info on specific hardware pieces and manufacturers for those that have lag AND ALSO for those that have NO LAG. Thank you! :D
