I know we're expected to just keep playing through the lag introduced with update 11, but I have to complain about it. The game should have been called Beta Unlimited. It's poor quality and the response is inadequate.

I never noticed it before u11, but now there is a whole new host of specific things that cause me to lag out for anywhere between half a second and 10 seconds.
Becoming Feared or Shaken
The timer of Fear or Shaken running out (since it's only a ~3 second timer, that usually means when Fear is being spammed the whole game becomes chopped up)
Any buff that increase skills, ESPECIALLY Prayer (thinking UMD lag?)
Losing any buff that increases skills
Casting Chain Lightning at a group of 4+ mobs (more mobs, more lag)(interestingly, when chain lightning bugs out and refuses to arc past the first target there is no lag, so maybe it's the calculations on arc direction?)

I have always had lag in this game starting in u7. I have a dedicated T5 line and get 200 FPS in the game so it is not on my end. However; every single time I run a quest and get any kind of dungeon alert there is INSANE lag (especially since u11). The lag is currently bad enough that I've simply stopped playing because it is nearly impossible to do anything fun. No game on the planet should have lag this bad and expect to stay in business, yet somehow it does.

Now, before U11, I generally didn't have lag. Would get spikes occasionally (server side, provider side and my own machine) but for the most part, never experienced the game breaking lag that so many have complained about for years.
Since U11, I can no longer claim that I don't experience game breaking lag. I've experience severe rubber-banding, chat server lag, spells firing late, spells not firing at all, and teleporting mobs ( and not devils or orthons). Granted, when U11 first went live, it wasn't all that bad on my end. Then, Crystal Cove opened up and it started getting bad...and has only gotten worse. You patched it with U11.1, and not only is the lag the worst it's ever been for me, but my Arti pet's IQ has dropped to a level lower than a grey ooze. The lag is so bad that even the hirelings have given up trying.

agreed.
The lag is killing the game. It reminds me of hell week back on the european servers - they started doing regular server resets to solve it for a time till a fix was implemented.
I understand lag is a very dificult issue to solve, and that its often undetectable localy and what is percieved as lag is often somethign else entirely(ie not network latency), but whatever the situation is the hitching, delays in spells/attacks landing and sudden spikes of apparent inactivity need to be fixed.

Are you happy Turbine?
Now you got Parvo mad about the lag as well....

I definitely noticed this issue when I came back to the game at the beginning of the year. I have to wonder how bad it will become before Turbine steps back from updating content and fixes the issue. By the time they get around to it it could very well be too late and they'll end up losing a chunk of their player base to all the games that are emerging this year and the next.

It's not lag... it's the server's way of saying, "You look tired - take a bit of a breather."

Yes. Hitching is what I'm seeing the most of, missed spells, shots, attacks. Argo has not had much lag prior to U11. I'm on Orien tonight for a static and I'm guessing it will be unplayable. Orien has always been worse than Argo.

The term "lag" is only used as a synonym for latency because it is the major perpetrator. However, the term "lag" is used to define any disjunct communication between the players input and the expected or observed result.
In another lag thread I got dumped on for simply pointing out that I don't have crippling lag when I play. Neither do the 3 ppl I statically run with (we're on Cannith). Sure we get lag once in a while when dungeon alert pops up or there are a lot of affects going off, etc. But even for the 2 days when Mabar was up we didn't get much. And it's almost never crippling.
I'm not saying that the rest of you don't have crippling lag. Just saying that if it was the servers, it would affect everyone on the servers, wouldn't it? And I see people saying that one server is worse than another - why would that be?

From my observations, it does affect a majority of the community. There seems to be only a small handful of folks that suffer no lag at all, ever. My bet is that it's hardware: something popular, like an nVidia NIC, or something, and the popularity of that hardware driver or archetecture makes the lag issue appear to be widespread.
If I get a moment, I may put together a hardware comparison thread. Something not too over complicated along the lines of "Hi, I have/don't have lag. Graphics card x, NIC y, ISP z."

That makes a lot of sense to me.

Go into the Shadow Crypt finale at U.S. peak times. For whatever reason, a long past update screwed that dungeon up and it lags bad. When you see that, you will know what the rest of us are seeing everywhere else. It is not constant, but it is bad.

Just to verify, you have turned off Environmental Stencil Shadows right? I know that graphical effect seems to effect the Shadow Crypt and the Sub in a bad way.

NEW lag/hitching/latency related observation:
In a Shroud on Orien last night, crippling lag set in. It seemed to be affecting every person in the raid. On a whim, I Alt-Tabbed out of the game, and then Alt-Tabbed back in. BAM!! Lag was gone. Just like effing magic. Something to consider as a workaround to try out.
