The Orien PuG challenge!

I'm seeing fewer and fewer pugs around Orien and a lot of the pugs that are on the list never seem to fill. This seems to be happening on any day and even at peak times. There is definitely not a shortage of players because if the Who list is checked there are tons of players within all level ranges that are not in a party and not in a quest. Sure some of them might be afk or planning to do something, but a lot of them have to be available to quest. But...they don't.

A lot of people rely almost exclusively on pugs and if they can't find a group they simply are unable to play the game. It's easy to tell people to just build a solo character and blast through the game, but this is an online game and playing with other people should be a large part of it. People who can't play the game without waiting an hour for a group to fill quickly become discouraged from playing the game further which hurts the community as a whole in the long run.

The Challenge: Whenever you do not have an activity planned, simply check out the grouping list and join something, anything (lowbie quests to raids) any of your characters could benefit from in even a small way (xp, favor, crafting loot, etc). Groups that have multiple people in them are more attractive to join, and this increases the odds of more people joining that group and getting it started without the leader waiting an hour. Even just one group a day from everyone would make a big difference.

Goal: Increase the number of pugs and decrease the time it takes for them to fill.

Steps:
1. Check lfm list
2. Find anything that any of your characters could benefit from
3. Switch to that character and join the group
4. Kill monsters and help the group succeed
5. Teach and/or learn from the group
6. Collect loot/xp

Benefits:
1. Parties fill faster
2. Parties that actually fill encourage players to create more groups
3. More groups encourage more people to play
4. More people playing allow parties to #1
5. Participants learn from meeting new people and playstyles
6. Make new friends

Reasons not to participate: (pick one or more)
1. I'm the best player on Orien and I have no patience for those losers beneath me.
2. I'm the rare person who is in the perfect guild and has a group/activity going 100% of the time. :D
3. Losing 10% experience for a quest I wasn't going to do anyways causes my face to turn red.
4. I'm evil and don't like helping others. :p
5. I have a limited amount of time to play and frequent/faster pugs would take too long to achieve. ;)
6. Other

6. Other

I've read about too many noodle incidents to feel comfortable joining any pick up groups.

The rules of acceptable behavior in PUGs have been determined by the least tolerant people.
The cost benefit analysis of PUGs tells me its too dangerous to venture into Smiley Town or Treasure Cove.

This sounds like fun, but I can not participate :(

4. I'm evil and don't like helping others. :p

is why xD

Seriously though I might just do this.

I actually am trying to pug some right now. been putting up more of my own LFM's though instead of joining others. mainly cause I have a couple of guildies running with me and we pug just to fill up the group from time to time.

i'm going with all 6 of those reasons, except #6.
might even add a coupla of reasons to the list :).

anyway, i've been on wayfinder for a bit but when on orien, i'd throw
up a lfm, put in progress on it and go to town (quest i mean). no point in waiting
for a perfect party when one isn't forthcoming. met some good folks, met some not so
good folks, and met some total tools. you know, the kind that don't read the lfm.

i'd even be willing to bet that those that grouped with me put me in the same 3 categories
that i put them in :).

The Orien PuG challenge!
Steps:
1. Check lfm list
2. Find anything that any of your characters could benefit from
3. Switch to that character and join the group
4. Kill monsters and help the group succeed
5. Teach and/or learn from the group
6. Collect loot/xp

Benefits:
1. Parties fill faster not always :/. a lot of the time the reason the pugs fill slowly is because of either the leader's reputation or because they're looking for something specific
2. Parties that actually fill encourage players to create more groups atm the real problem on orien is that the people who CAN lead the raids/epics/quests decided that its static or nothing after the latest UI/quest/raid changes
5. Participants learn from meeting new people and playstyles not always a good thing o_o
6. Make new friends general chat isn't enough? ^^. seriously however there's a lot that can happen in pugs which makes it so that people stay the heck away from them.

Reasons not to participate: (pick one or more)
1. I'm the best player on Orien and I have no patience for those losers beneath me. well ofc! you're all pikers darnit! /sarcasm
2. I'm the rare person who is in the perfect guild and has a group/activity going 100% of the time. :D i proclaim lies! i have yet to see a single guild on orien like that
3. Losing 10% experience for a quest I wasn't going to do anyways causes my face to turn red. well no. but people doing stupid things after i ask them not to causes the same effect?
4. I'm evil and don't like helping others. :p
5. I have a limited amount of time to play and frequent/faster pugs would take too long to achieve. ;)
6. Other [color=red] begin the nerdrage from lvl 20 FvSs who dont heal lvl 20 rogues w/ 150 hp(does that guy still play? <those of you who know the guy i'm talking about ofc. i cant remember his name atm>) and ofc! the 'i need this specific buff and group setup or else it wont work' leaders....

its more bad experiences with crappy leaders and pugs and random people who cause those of us who dont often pug, and when i do pug a raid i'm typically leading o_o, to stay away from pugs. This and the above points also established the eternal chant of the pug joiners! "please dont be bad. please listen. please dont be squishy. please dont die to the trap i'm disarming. please dont flee from me as i'm trying to heal you. please for the love of god dont go get red alert and die".
oh well. i still pug occasionally.... but i'm careful.

80% of the things I do are pugs. Even Raiding. Our guild raiding schedule is rather relaxed, and partly conflicts with my personal schedule.

I like to host pugs. Mostly of content I feel confident enough in to lead, which means that I need to have to run it a few times already.

I like having alts at different levels, so I can switch characters when I see a lfm which sounds interesting.
Sometimes it's the BYOH, zerg type of lfm, sometimes not. Depending on in which mood I am and how confident I feel with the quest.

Sometimes I do silly things even if I should know better (Hello, lever in proof is in the poison elite).

My name is Meinir, and I am a pugger.

...Alright. I can do this. I can find some groups to run in, even if it's not the quest I feel like doing at the time. Maybe the loot gods will reward me with some tomes.

I've played for about five years now and most of my gaming experience is PuGs, they're almost never as bad as the press they get here.

i am not in a guild on Orien so i have to pug or run w/hirelings

pugs are a way to meet new people & i also get really tired fast of elitist cat-assers who play in cliques all of the time

this is an MMO so meeting & playing with new people is part of the game

I love PuGs, and run in them all the time. It's too bad I see a lot of party leaders too afraid risk imperfect party composition, or take a chance that a *gasps* newb might join the party. For the love of Pete, I was rejected on capped Fighter from a Shroud Normal, because it couldn't be DDO'ed.

Fail.

Now I have run with some bad players. Most the time I suck it up, and lead the team to victory. Sometimes we wipe. That's the game. It's really too bad that a lot of vets can't be bothered to "waste time" taking a risk, when it would benefit the whole community.

Disclaimer: There are Veteran players on Orien, who post Epics and Raids, taking whoever posts firsts. To them, I say Cheers, and Thank You!

I'd pug more when levelling if people would run the quests at level rather than 3 levels or more over.

With the new Bravery Bonus thing, now it's almost the opposite - everyone wants to run on Elite with characters 3 levels UNDER :p
