And why?

Any animal, or even insect will work, you know pets. Humans don't count sorry.
I am sure I've seen a thread like this before, but it was pictures, I am mostly interested in what the name is and why.

Rats:
Last winter, at the library my mom works at, a young cat always came by. Someone else asked if she wanted to take it home(since that person could not because someone in her house was allergic to cats) My mom said no but she asked around and everything like that. The poor little guy, living out on the streets in the cold snow.

A few days later my mom comes home from work with it. Now I am not a cat person for many reasons I'll keep to myself.

He's white and black, he sounds so pathetic when he meows. He eats stuff off dishes, anything left out. He eats dog food, He also stands up to our livestock guardian dog.

All in all I'd be writing for hours to say everything about him. I love the little bugger, a few days after I met him I named him Rats :D. My sister was the only one who disapproved.

I had a shar pei growing up and it was named Raisin. I figure it was a quite fitting name.

Mine is Maynard

I was thinking of weird of the wall names and Tool came to mind I personaly love the band

So I named him after Maynard James Keenan arguably one of the best voices in rock music to date

Contrary to the OP, I'm quite a cat person.
We had a cat some time ago that remained nameless for so long that eventually she was just called "The Cat".

Then she had kittens, and two of them were called after Manzoni's Bravi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bravi): Griso (because she was grey), Sfregiato (because she had a little scar next to an eye).
The other two were called Hunter (because she particularly enjoyed hunting small birds and wall lizards), and Sylvester (because he looked exactly like the Looney Toons' Sylvester).

If I had a dog, I'd call him Black Shuck, even if it was a white female poodle. :D
