Okies, here goes
My wizzy wears robe Deathblock of Invulnerability. Invulnerability says 5/dr magic as you all know. So today I was poking around in GH, finishing up the rares, and decided to check out the combat log.
(Combat): Fire Giant Captain hit you for a total of 9 points of bludgeon damage after 5 were blocked by Magic damage reduction.
okay, thats positive, the robe seems to be working... then I scroll down, see this:
(Combat): Zakya Cult Archer hit you for a total of 6 points of pierce damage after 1 was blocked by damage reduction.
(Combat): Jarilith hit you for a total of 13 points of pierce damage after 1 was blocked by damage reduction.
Both were damage totals by piercing damage. I didnt have anythign in the combat log regarding slashing damage, but it made me wonder if this is wai? seems to me that the dr of 5 should apply to slashing, piercing and bludgeoning damage, but based on the combat log, it's clearly not the case.
so I ask, am I missing something here, is this wai or is there a bug here that should be reported?

If it broke through DR/magic then the attack (the weapon used, to be precise) was of magical nature. Quite a few attacks past level 8-10 are made with magical weaponry (including 'natural weapons' it seems)
DR/- on the other-hand isn't broken by anything.

Archers got magic weapons, so do the cats, so they bypass the dr granted by invulnerability ;)

Did you have the DR 1/- ship buff?
A magical weapon was used on you, went through the invulnerability, then hit some other source of DR 1. Most likely the ship buff.
edit: triple ninja'd.

Believe the dr5/magic means it takes a +5 weapon to bypass that damage reduction.. if the archer had a +5 bow that explains that, though where did the 1 damage reduction you still mentioned come from?

I did have the ship buff, so thats the source of the 1 dr.
and ty for the explanations regarding the bypass on the robes. The quick responses are much appreciated. +1's coming your ways.

For sure this is not WAI. Fire Giants should be wielding at LEAST +2 weapons, and their Captains should have +4 or +5.

No.
Any magic weapon will bypass the DR of invulnerability.

Absolutely not. The Bludgeon attacks of a giant are either with feet or random rocks from the ground, neither of which are likely to be enchanted as weapons.

You know its true.
Also, ANY magic weapon bypasses DR/magic in DDO. Though I seem to remember that not being entirely the case in Pnp...

Natural attacks from magical creatures are considered Magical for bypassing Invulnerability.

Older versions of DnD had various requirements to bypass DR, for example Ghost Touch didn't exist and you needed at least a +1 weapon to hit a ghost.* (I may be remembering this specific monster's DR incorrectly, but you get the idea)
For 3.5, which is the general rule set that DDO uses, the enhancement bonus on a weapon doesn't matter. If it is enchanted, it will bypass DR/magic.

In 3.0 you had DR/+1, DR/+2, etc. In 3.5 it was simplified to DR/Magic, which DDO uses.

You're thinking of 2nd edition or 3.0. In 2nd edition certain creatures required certain +s to even damage. In 3.0 that was changed and DR was introduced, but most DR was overcomable by a sufficient enhancement bonus. That was changed in 3.5 to special materials, alignments, or just being magic.
