While my mechanic is mainly a melee character I like the option of ranged damage, so my 3rd gs item will be a heavy repeater.

Unfortunately I'm not quite sure what to put on it. So far I'm thinking about either earth II (acid dmg, earthgrab) or lightning II (lightning/good dmg, lightning strike).

I'd appreciate any input on either of those choices - which is better in which situation, is there something else that is better on a repeater than either, etc.?

Lit II is certainly better since it gains more from repeater's RoF and you can bypass any DR with the right bolts.
A cheap option, if you're short on DLS, is perhaps a Pos III, since most ennemies are evil and, as for Lit II, you can bypass the DR with the right bolts.

triple earth doesn't have "good" dmg - so will be dr beater only with friendly arti
earth repeater better to make from alchemical (with "good" dmg also)

I'd suggest a different option - a Rad II. Being able to blind an entire attacking group, no save, is very powerful. The problem with the tripple earth is the save mechanic makes it nearly useless at higher levels.
Second choice - Lit II - good damage against most bosses worth fighting and with the right bolts you don't need to worry about DR.

Wildcard option - Ooze repeater. Probably not as good, but with the destruction nerf incoming, it might be interesting.

Edit:
Oh - Rad II advice withdrawn - just realised that you won't have IPS. Go Lit II.

Thanks for the advice!
