Recently TR'd my kotc drow pally to a kensai horc fighter... In doing so, I made him "true neutral", taking for granted my past life's passive DR breaking abilities. To cut to the point, did I screw myself by not making him good or pure-good for the purpose of breaking DR? I've never really had to understand this mechanic because of my pally's "weapons of good".

Passive: "You were a Paladin in a past life. You occasionally find yourself overcome with righteous fervor. Each time you acquire this feat you gain 5% more health when affected by positive energy. This feat can be stacked up to three times. "
Active: "You recall more about your past life as a paladin. You have +2 to your Heal skill, and can invoke Divine Favor upon yourself 3 times per rest. (Activate this paladin ability to call upon the strength and wisdom of a deity to grant a +1 luck bonus on weapon attack and damage. This bonus is increased by +1 for every 3 caster levels beyond level 3, maximum +3 luck bonus. About 2 minutes per use.) "
There's no DR breaking ability in either past life feat. The DR breaking is solely in the capstone, which is a paladin level 20 only enhancement, and as such does not carry over.
True neutral isn't a bad alignment at all, though. Especially on a TR/alt when you likely have the DR breakers crafted that you need already.
Also, you can still use holy weapons without UMD.

Sorry about that, I worded my question poorly. When I said past life, I meant while i was actually playing as a paladin. The reason I asked about alignment was because I was dinking around and saw a greatsword of pure good that had a UMD of 20 if not good or pure good, and I started to panic thinking that every DR breaking weapon would need a UMD if I wasnt the right alignment hahaha

Ah, ok.
Yes, you'll have problems using pure good weapons - these will require UMD.
Is it the end of the world? No. Holy weapons do not require UMD, just like anarchic and it's lawful equivalent. So you're not in any serious problems at all - just go for holy/anarchic weapons instead of pure good/whatever-alignment-weapon-enhancement-that-breaks-DR you need.

They do offer straight up alignment changes now instead of having to work up all the way to 20 to TR, or use money right off the bat to LR.

You don't have to do an Alignment Change, or a TR, to break your enemy's Damage Reduction.
There are *several* ways to bypass this Issue.
1. Holy - Holy does not have a UMD or restriction. Every Player Character currently in this game can use it. Holy + Silver = Devils, Holy + Cold Iron = Demons, Holy + Adamantine = Lord of Blades, Holy + Piercing = Rakshasas, etc.
2. Cannith-Crafted Pure Good Shards do not have a UMD requirement, but as a result are a higher Minimum Level.
3. Flametouched Iron - Metalline + Flametouched Iron busts most DR in game. Is it the best way? No, not particularly, but it's there.
4. Epic Red Augment Slots - certain Epic Weapons come with Metal Types. Others don't. But let's face it - Trash DR is normally just DR/Good. A Augment Crystal of Heaven's Light is an easy way to make your eSoS bust DR for eMalicia, Amrath Trash, eAbishai, etc.
5. Epic Antique Greataxe - busts most DR types in game. Now has higher base damage, and Force Damage, which affects (almost) everything.
6. Green Steel - You don't meet up with a lot of DR at the lower levels, other than the Black Skeletons in the Delera's chain. Green Steel Triple Pos/Min II/Lit II will probably get you what you need up until 20.
A lot of options out there for a Non-UMD True Neutral character.

Righteousness does not (http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p=2902942&postcount=21) bypass holy/good DR.
Was that what you were implying?

Your link is from 2010.
Righteousness has changed since then. It now does bypass DR/Good.
Specifically, Update 9 : The Righteousness weapon enchantment now turns a weapon "Good" for damage reduction purposes.

OK... I'll have to go back and try. Last shroud run I tried it out in post-u9, I could swear I saw yellow numbers while hitting harry with a metalline righteous weapon of some sort. I did this after I kept seeing posts about righteousness now bypassing DR. I probably sold the weapon (I think it was a greatsword) already.
My stance atm is: No pic = doesn't bypass.
Ye I took the Bullheaded feat; twice.

Righteousness only bypasses good alignment, you need silver or metalline AND good aligned weapons to bypass pit fiend DR.
