Dunno, i remember when the first risia event came out, and everyone was like "omg awesomemustgrind", same for the other events.
But as they come back again and again, they just sort of get stale/ no one runs them at all/ they seem sort of pointless :/, i would rather they came out with a new event every 2 or so years than keep repeating the same ones over and over... or just have maybe one event a year, something that de-trivializes them...
And, in certain cases (CC i think), i think the items are a little too good to be a feature of a recurring event...
unfortunately, i know i am probably wrong, i cant really seem to pin down a logical reason i think events shouldnt recur too much, its just a feeling i have :/

I like recurring events. I enjoyed Mabar last year, and am looking forward to running it again this year.
I think they can be over done though.....
Ideally, I'd like to see 4 different recurring events, and they can run 1 every season. Once a year seems long enough of a wait where plenty of people have never seen it, and many who did now have new toons or otherwise want new gear.

They could modify the event itself, add items (especially items tradeable for gold doubloons), or spice it up in other ways.

depends on how long you play this game. for new people, CC and mabar is fresh and enticing stuff. for older players, its not so much and if they run them than its probably because they recently built a new toon. every few years and introducing a new event to replace an old one is a good idea, but how many older players are there now? how many have been around for 5+ years? my suggestion would be to introduce 1 new event every few years, maybe not replace forever, but replace risia this year than next year bring it back but replace CC than the next year replace mabar etc. that way it can be something for all to look forward too. just a thought.

I'm pro recurring events - last Mabar I was concentrating on lowbie clickies across several servers, this time I want to make a couple of specific epic items and a couple of clickies for my completionist. I missed the first Cove, was also trying to focus on helping a friend out of commission with his items on Cove no 2 so only grabbed a couple of Tier IIIs and a few tier 1s, so this is my first chance to really work on getting the stuff I want upgraded to Tier III on the toons I have.
Not everybody has the opportunity to drop everything and grind like crazy, repetition ensures that the maximum playerbase has the option to join in the events.

I like both cove and mabar.
Altho i'd like to see them more often... say 4-6 times per year for a single weekend maybe. And then the one week+ long event as well.

Making just one entirely new Mabar/Crystal Cove style event each year would probably consume enough development and testing time to force updates to come out maybe once a year, instead of twice or 3 times a year. No thank you.

i would LOVE to see an event like one of my favorite raids (chrono) were the market, harbor, or other large area gets invaded by devils/undead/random bad guys just to see everyone on the server and their awsome toons destroying an invading army.
come on people look what we can do with just 12 people, beat back invasions, stop the end of the world, etc. all these armies going "we have 5000 warriors we will crush stormreach"
*playerbase*: "bring it!"

Event repetition: Good.
But it has to be balanced. For example, 2 x year the cove, 2 x festivult, 1x Mabar. Small changes welcome. After some years, new event, old event gets out.
Permanent: No, thank you. I like the Cove Event, but if it would be permanent it would not be an event, and it would not be fun.

I think it would be fun, if it only comes once or twice a year in the context of other events. I think if it were in a broad range of events and did not dilute the opportunity for new ones there'd be no problem. If the continued presence of any of the events caused a lack of development of new events, I agree, THAT would be a problem. Personally, if something had to go, I'd rather it be other events before the Cove.
It's a DDO signature event (Birthday Celebration) and I think it'd be great to expose new players to it and give older players a chance to upgrade/attend it with new builds/characters.
I've not yet tried Mabar so I look forward to giving it another go. I've never taken the time to try to do the Easter Egg hunt right...maybe this next time I'll take a closer look. I've never really done the Ice Games yet -- so if they went away I wouldn't have the chance. (But who'd want to do those anyway? <--attempt at humor.)
