View Full Version : Mission Impossible: Crystal Cove!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get 50k treasure map pieces to open the Crystal Cove.
Wayfinder is a very sparsely populated server. At this point, 3:30pm EST, we have been able to accumulate 2,243 map pieces in the 6 hours or so the event has been open. I currently see 13, of the 180 total, online members in Smuggler's Run. At this rate, itll take about 6 days for the Crystal Cove to open, here on Wayfinder.
My guildmates and I saw this coming when we entered the event when it 1st launched some 9 days ago. But given the severity of the problem the bugs presented, we didnt think it would be wise to post as devs were frantically looking to fix said issues. But now we are in the clear(for now), so i though we could now draw some attention to this.
Honestly, Wayfinder may never see the inside of the Crystal Cove, as it stands right now. So if we can get a little help here devs, we would be so very appreciative.
Thanks in advance...

Makes sense. If keying the amount of map pieces required to the server population is too much (or too revealing of Turbine's population figures ), then just reducing the Wayfinder requirement to like 1k sounds reasonable.

Um, did you know that Smuggler's Rest isn't where you go for map pieces to unlock Crystal Cove?
You only stay in on the pirate island long enough to get a compass and a grog... then head elsewhere.

Ya, not sure i fully understand what your trying to say. The point im making is: at this rate, this server wont see the Crystal cove doors opening for many days.

Ya, not sure i fully understand what your trying to say.
The right way to open the Crystal Cove door is to drink a grog and fight kobolds/goblins in low-level dungeons such as Butcher's Path.
The wrong way to open the Crystal Cove door is to run around the pirate island killing minotaur pirates.
If you do it the wrong way, the progress is slower than if you were doing it right.

Grog + Kobold Assault is a fast easy way to aquire map pieces.
Yunico

actually, Butcher's Path is the best: 100 kobolds guaranteed for your killing as fast as you can run through. Netted me ~50 pieces in 4min.

The drop rate for map pieces on the pirate island is very low; therefore, it takes a tremendously long time to meet the quota, as you have realized. I think the point that Angelus is making is that there are other places where the drop rate is much higher. For example, you might try the Butcher's Path in the Harbor.
Of course, if Wayfinder doesn't have many people playing on it, you will probably never get the 50k that is needed. :(

Ya im not trying to get an increase in the drop rate, trying to get a decrease in the quota. If your on Wayfinder and u come to talk to Euphonia, and you see 47,199 left...its draining. You almost wanna say whats the point? And this needle is moving very slowly. I understand all the get more map pieces from outside quest, but it still begs the question. How long will it take to open doors to this event at this rate? Very long, far as i can see...B

The quota being that high is impossible for a small population server there for it needs to be dropped so then people on this server can get upgrades and gear aswell. Otherwise there is really no point in going into crystal cove in my books. if the quota goes down lower for wayfinder they will have a chance to go and get upgrades on gear for their toons

Have you submitted a bug report? That may get it to someone's attention that could do something about it.

Never had any luck getting timely responses to a bug report. Though this would be more effective route. As a matter of fact, i posted a bug report some 10 days ago regarding something else, and just today got my response(btw no actual action on said report, just a letter stating its been read...lol). So im not very bullish on bug report atm.

50,000 map pieces? Wasn't it like 5,000 map pieces, and that has been dropped to 3,000? Or am I thinking of something else? I had an hour this morning after the servers came back up, and that was enough time to farm a bunch of map pieces so I could contribute, then jump into the event one time and do some farming.

It's always been 50,000 map pieces to open the cove for 1 hour. But this is an insane number for WAYFINDER with the population we got herte. There are just not enough people on this server to collect that many map pieces to open it.
We might get lucky and manage to open it up once or twice in the next week or 10 days ... and that can't be it.

Update: 12 hours in and we have 44,883 to go for our FIRST event on wayfinder -
Please devs have a heart!!!!!!!!
5000 pieces is much more reasonable for this server - 2 hours in the cove event per day!

That's so weird... Seriously, PM Tolero or Cordovan directly.
Sarlona is nowhere near that.. by the time I get done with a bathroom break after a Crystal Cove, we're down to 1800 pieces remaining. We can't be more than 3000 pieces per run.
For the sake of your server, do something more direct than making a forum post. Maybe even an in-game ticket, stating you know other servers have less than a tenth of your quota.

to clear up some of the confusion: it's different # requirement for the first time a server opens the dungeon. Every other server had to do the 50,000 to start, the difference was the other servers had so many people anticipating the event that we had twice as many instances of the explorer area than wayfinder has people in the explorer area. Not to mention the other methods of getting pieces.
Quite simply, i'm bumping this so the devs notice and hopefully take pity on the wayfinders.

A Dev should probably log on to wayfinder and donate 40k pieces for the first unlock.

So they lowered our quota to 15k now. Which took this server a full 17 hours to get to. So once a day u get a Cove. And its too bad for you, if your at work or sleeping when it opens...

Thanks to everyone (and the dev/mod) that helped wayfinder finally get their first cove done.
15000 map parts for the second run means it will probably be 2-3 days before another run happens so congratulations all 15 or so ppl that actually got to participate!
It is doubtful with such a hill to climb that most ppl will bother grinding a second one as many are disheartened! and know that to upgrade items will generally take 5 or so runs and there will not be enough time left of the event for that to happen.
If the helpful person that lowered the map parts needed gets another chance to look at how long its taking us to get these grinds done, could they please lower the needed map parts to around 5k per run so we can get about 1 run per day!

This is how I am doing it, the poor drop rate of map pieces and my crappy self healing ability has opened up a new way to get map pieces, I average about 500 per hour, if only 100 of your people do this on your server its 5000 per hour easily.
step 1) get some pirates grog (you can trade doublons for this, or just a few TP, after running CC you can sell gems for doublons to get some more grog if needed)
Step 2) Drink grog!
Step 3) Walk the butchers path, again and again and again.
A quck run through shouldnt take more then 2 mins netting about 20 - 30 map pieces
Step 4) Profit!
I average about 500 per hour
A quck run through shouldnt take more then 2 mins.
Wow, there's grind. Then there is masochism. I truly wouldn't wish that on anyone :P
It's probably easier to get the stuff you need on another server then chuck everything on one toon and transfer it to Wayfinder lol!

Thanx for those that keep supporting this thread - and fyi we HAVE been using grog and running butchers... ALL day some of us... and barely made 5k.. anyone entering the cove looks around, sees its nigh impossible and leaves.
- even on the last 1000 we couldnt get 2 full groups of 6 lvl16-20s. i think less than 20 ppl got to join the event itself.. on our whole server!!
in short we ARE grinding, and WANT to earn our way, but 15k map pieces is unrealistic.. on wayfinder it should be set WAY lower.

This was a problem mentioned during the last cove event, except in a different way. Those of us who play in non-peak times had much more grind to do open the cove during those hours. They should have seen this coming on wayfinder with how the turn-ins work.
There should be a maximum time-frame for the event to open on itself, but during peak-times it should be possible to open quicker with turn ins. Atleast wayfinder and those don't play at peak times can still have fun w/o hours of grinding each time.

Ah had no idea it had so few people, seems reasonable for them to change the amount required on wayfinder, kinda pointless otherwise.
With only 100 people 1000 map peices max per thingy seems reasonable.

It occurred to me that we could help...When I get back from dropping my kids off, I'm going to roll a level l4 barbarian on Wayfinder, get some grog as fast as I can, and go farm Butchers Path. I'll call him Birnam or something similar...
I don't know if anyone else would be so inclined, but if just a few people do this, we could probably start getting some map pieces pretty quickly...
Anyway, see you in about an hour....I'll be the one begging for grog!

(sorry for the Englisch, wanted to get the word out quickly...)
So we've been in negotiations with the Kobold Union and we believe we've reached an agreement. Expect some more reasonable map turn-in rates momentarily.
The Kobolds wanted to be clear about their position in all of this however: they still hate you.

i forgot i didn't have veteran status, so it took me a little longer...but i rolled Birnam on Wayfinder and ran him up to level 2...very fast with bravery bonus. it was fun in a Hulk Smash kind of way. got some Turbine Points out of it as well, although i had to give some of them back to get my first grog. But I was able to run for half an hour, and turned in 130 map pieces. and my guild is level 3!
