Your security is important to all of us at Turbine. Please remember the following account security tips: change your password frequently and use unique usernames for every website or game you visit. Keep your web browser up-to-date and avoid installing plug-ins from 3rd party sites. Frequently perform security scans on your computer to detect and eliminate malware. Most importantly – never share your username or password.

Did something bad happen?

Hopefully this is just a response to the wiki hack.

Hopefully this is just a response to the wiki hack.

Certainly the probable cause for the reminder.

The interwebs can be a scary place sometimes  felt like a good time to remind people to do all those best-practices that they may be procrastinating on.

Actually, installing some 3rd party plug ins can make your browser even safer. It is random, willy nilli installing of plug ins that get you into trouble.

my usernames so secret even I don't know it until I look at the paper. Lost the paper once and had to answer some questions to figure out *** it was with customer support.

You guys should really strongly consider putting out two-factor authentication apps, if not physical devices as well. Prevention is great, extra security on top of that is even better.

I had no problem, ever, before warnings.

Since we're on the subject, can we please get MORE (not less!) security in the DDO store? Like, you know, having to add some code, pin number, or maybe even retype our entire credit card # every time we make a purchase?

I was very disappointed that, despite many calls for this, instead DDO went the exact opposite direction, and now you just click once on something and it's bought! That's not security, that's attempting to use mistakes we make to get our money. Which is brilliant... and if I ran a company, totally what I'd do... but really not cool.

Did something bad happen?

Don't know if something happened or not but this message sure comes at a coincidental time with what happened to me last week. My password to my account was randomly changed. Had to wait 2 hours for a password reset email to arrive. It was a Saturday so I had no one to call. I knew that it had been changed because I was on the account playing 2 hours prior and when I came back it kept telling me incorrect password.

If you have kids using your account, make sure they know if anyone, ANYONE, asks for the login info, to come and get, you, tell you, squelch and report.

A guild mate's child was socially engineered out of the login info. Fortunately the Turbine staff were great, the situation was resolved with a minimum of serious repercussion for the accounts involved.

Thank you again Turbine staff. And thanks for the public notice reminder. Parents have that talk before something happens. (That being said, I would really like to take any lowlife that targets children for malicious acts and pound on them some.)

Guess its time to run malwarebytes.
