Hi there,

I am following Tihocan's Warpriest of Siberys build (the revisiting old paths build). I am enjoying it, but just wanted some input on what most people playing this build are doing while fighting. I currently am level 2 and have Bless, Summon Monster I, Nimbus of Light and Cure Light Wounds in my prepared list for dungeons. I am summoning the monster (dog, rat or spider) when entering the dungeon (lasts 10 min and will resummon if necessary). If I don't get jumped, I am start by using Nimbus of Light from a distance to soften a target up then whack on them with my great axe when they close in. More often than not, it is a group of three and not just one mob. I cast Cure Light Wounds if needed to top off some health. I have never run our of SP and find myself not even using the shrines yet. Is this going to change as I level higher? I am not casting much, not really that much time before the mobs are all on top of you and I end up just swinging away with my weapon. I would love to cast more, but is this effective with mobs all around you whacking on you? So, just looking for some typical "rotations" or fighting styles. I'm sure it must get more complicated later, right? Thanks.

It gets more in-depth later. The first 5-7 levels in DDO you'll be swinging that greataxe (maul against undead skeletons). Use your sp's mostly for buffs and some healing. Nimbus is rather bad damage. Use it when you HAVE to hit something at range. (very rarely)

If things are too easy for you, you can always run elites and get a bravery bonus going.

Thanks Harvey. I must be getting better, more powerful spells down the road so I can actually cast a little more and it actually do something. You're right with Nimbus of Light, I feel like I am throwing snowballs at them as much damage as the bolts do lol. Any recommendations for "must-have" spells to keep in my prepared dungeon arsenal for later? What are the bread and butter spells? Thanks again.

Also, since you are meleeing, memorizing sound burst might be a good idea. Since its centered on your character, after you let off that first searing light, the 2-3 mobs that come running after you can be further softened with a well placed sound burst. Moreover, if they fail their save then you will stun them giving you a little crowd control for your troubles.

Low levels are generally quite easy, it can get a little tough around midlevels on a divine just before blade barrier. Typically damage spells are not all that effective bar a couple of them and I'd not recommend you use them regularly especially on harder dungeons. I haven't checked the build, but I assume by the name it's a melee oriented cleric and as such you generally have a little more sp to play with (since you won't have the dcs to throw most spells at later levels anyway). On the casting side for a melee cleric, I'd suggest using non-dc spells if and when they're needed. Only exception will be blade barrier which will work great all the way till endgame even with a terrible dc.

It's important to understand that trying all-in-one melee/casting/heals isn't easy and requires more build points and gear to be reasonably affective. Based on your join date I'm not sure what you have access to or how new you are but if it isn't a class you're completely familiar with, limiting your roles to just melee/heals and some spells such as blade barrier will work better than trying to do too much.

The path you're following is not focused on casting spells at monsters. It's for characters who kill opponents with swords or axes and heal / buff themselves in between.

Thanks all, great advice and I think I'm all set now :-)
