To save a name...

Hello!

I have a character i rolled up lo those many years ago that I'd like to play again. He has a very unique name I would like to retain, but will lose if i just delete and remake.

He's a level 2 Drow Wizard named... Gimp~Sarlona the Drow (they wont' take the tilda and Sarlona out)

I made him when drow were released as a protest because my Elf Wizard was suddenly... substandard. Comparatively. At the time. I was as surprised as anyone else that the name was still available.

Here's my problem. I already have multiple casters that are higher level, better built, and quite honestly... I'm a melee at heart.

What I am looking for are suggestions on what I can do with him. My first impulse is to just put him up to 3, wait until hearts are on sale again and get a +3 reincarnation. I'm sure I could find a good drow-melee build.

But is that my only option?

Thus I turn to you, the forum gods, in hopes of a reprieve from spending my hoarded points, just so I can join groups and raids that say "No gimps".

Stats follow:

STR 10
DEX 14
CON 10
INT 20
WIS 10
CHA 10

(And yes I know i should just play him as a wizard, but I am just not much of a caster player. If I can't have FUN doing it, what's the point?)

Well, if you want to melee... going PM would be the best choice. I'd say 12 Wizard (pale master), 6 fighter (more feats and BAB), and 2 rogue or monk.

Well, your STR is too low for a melee build while your CON is too low for any build but esp. a low-HP class like wiz, IMHO; your DEX is too low for TWF but doesn't do much for a THF build; your max INT really only pays off if you stick with wiz (unless maybe you were trying to make a Mechanic); yet you're so attached to the name you'll splurge on an LR? And don't forget you can't change your race or gender when LRing, so you'd still be a drow; and +1 hearts are min lvl 3 while +3 hearts are min lvl 7, IIRC, so you're gonna have an interesting time if you intend to get rid of all your wiz lvls.

If you plan on using the heart, I would suggest a twf paladin - drow are very good at that one (even though paladins are currently kind of sub-optimal).

I AM attached to the name. That's why I was trying to see if there was much I COULD do. I was unaware of the level limits on the hearts, but that makes sense. I'm aware that whatever i do, he'll be a drow.

I can do a LR. I'm VIP and the points just sit there usually. What would work with a wizard splash you think?

And on the stats that he currently has...remember, this was when drow first came out. Going dex was actually not a bad idea back then. We were all thinking in terms of actual D&D at that point.

Just use a Heat and change your class from Wizzy.

Will the recent changes to U11 this build should be even more fun to play. Gearing it properly should allow you to solo and raid tank with little difficulty.

What would work with a wizard splash you think?
On a drow? Not much, IMHO. Maybe some sort of battle-caster? Like rogue 2 / rgr or ftr 6 / wiz 12: still a melee build, but with some arcane buffs and maybe some no-save DPS spells.

I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud here... :p
