Looking for advice for first greensteel item for my level 20 kotc paladin. I've heard overwhelming support for it to be lit 2 falchion, but the game has changed from when people first crafted those. Right now im using mostly +4 holy crafted falchions of assorted metals and associated banes. I wouldn't be using a lit 2 for boss fights just trash. Is being better vs trash worth spending all those larges ?

Items i'd be considering to craft instead of lit 2 would be, hp con-opp item or a radiance falchion. Right now the con-opp would go great in the cloak spot, but there is the cloak from chrono to consider down the road. Radiance falchion would be nice for soloing, which i do alot of, and general trash use. Much like lit but with dependable proc, on crit with a falchion should happen very fast. Having blur from scroll, displacement proc from armor and radiance blind from weapon should make me extremely hardy vs melee.

I'm leaning toward con-opp. There are also some new raid craftables from u11.

I'd still go with the lightning II falchion. It does quite a nice amount of damage in many situations, normal raid boss fights included.

my pure kotc pally uses a radiant GS weapon. Many things ignore the flaming part, but very few are resistant to light and the blindness. I do very well vs. Evil Outsiders.

I'm not sure I'd recommend Radiance - the blind effect is nice, but pure damage output (in my opinion) is better. Lightning II does a lot of damage and few things are resistant. A Triple Positive weapon is cheap (single shard), does very good damage in general and extremely good damage to undead. An HP item is the obvious first choice for an accessory, and you can blend it with a variety of effects; Stoneskin is a nice effect you can get at Tier 2.

Some more information I guess is im sitting at 452 hp right now and just starting to try some epics. Completed tide turns 5 times, party crashers once. Is my hp acceptable for epics or would a better weapon prove to be more effective?

A Two Handed Weapon is a good choice for a starter unless you are a TWF - What it should be is based more on personal flavor and need

Options:

3x Positive Weapon - Lots of good damage and greater disruption. However, Paladin does have Holy sword which is not just for swords.

MIN2 - Keen, bleed, acid, holy, evil, metaline - The all encompasing boss better. A level 20 Paladin with Capstone can replace this with a Silver/Cold Iron weapon with the appropriate Bane suffix. This will cover everything but where you need an Evil Aligned weapon to bypass DR, so unless your planning on killing a lot of Eladrin and Paladins this may not be the best choice.

LIT2 - Lightning damage and a real nice strike for about 600. However, while devils are not immune and usually not resistant to lightning, Demons are... One advantage is that when running with an Air Savant this amount of damage goes up.

SALT2 - Untyped damage but takes 4 seconds to expand all ticks for as much as 400 total

STEAM2 - Untyped damage for 12 - 22, difference is that instead of 2% chance to proc it has a 20% chance, less damage more often

DUST2 - Disintegration 400 - 500. While less damage then lightning - I believe currently there are no monsters/constructs immune to the effects of Disintegration.

MAGMA/ICE/RADIANCE are all good Trash beaters when used in the appropriate environment

So my recommendation is first look in your Golf Bag and ask, what am I missing that will help bring my strokes down.

For a Paladin with the capstone I would definitely go Dust2. Cheaper than Lit2 with comparable damage. For other classes Lit2 is better because you can throw holy on it and bypass the DR of trash devils, but for a paladin this is achieved by the capstone.

If you're going to make a triple-positive, I'd go maul for a general skelly whacker - or go double-positive for the raise clicky and lose a fair amount of damage, but save the larges.

My suggestion: Dust2 Falchion first, then a Con-Opp HP item (I'd recommend goggles if you don't have and aren't planning on grinding for Tharne's goggles, that's where I'll be putting my primary GS item (TripAir or TripEarth HP for melees, Con-Opp HP for casters), as I'm planning on grinding out the eEnvenomed Cloak from Chrono on most, if not all my characters).
