Stormreach service I did not know existed

Yesterday my bard 14 Sensate suffered his first death in Reaver's Refuge, fighting gnolls in Mount Reysalon. He recalled to Refuge proper, did repairs at the bar, then went to the kobold banker and tried to put his Health necklace into bank.

DING! You should never take off a Constitution item right after death. Normally however this causes nothing but embarrassment -- not even equipment damage since death in a tavern causes none. This time however I found to my consternation that my CON +6 Necklace has disappeared! Apparently if you die while trying to move something into (and possibly out of) the bank, the item is lost.

"Buy back" tab with the barkobold showed nothing (normally you can find there items you deliberately destroyed). After some commiseration on guild chat I went to AH and placed 25k bid on a CON +6 necklace with 16 hours left. I switched toons, joined a Shroud group which failed to fill for half hour and disbanded, then switched back to Sensate.

I see I have mail. Imagine my surprise when I got this:

Is it possible that this only happens with items lost in transfer that are "locked in"?

I've seen this before actually. 2.. 4 years back? There was a mail bug that Turbine was able to track down. They were also able to track down a good portion of the "lost" items.

Apparently the base check code still is running in the background. But it would seem to indicate then there are more ways to lose than what is currently being checked for. (granted that also requires exact knowledge of what to check for. Those things can't be easy.)

Obviously, since you were in Reaver's Refuge. One of those sneaky kobolds stole it, and then Ternatheir made them give it back. Mystery solved.

i had the same thing happen to me about 2years ago i had a large collectables bag with 3 years of colectables in it worth millions in plat to replace go missing thru the mail i got the same message back with 5k plat and that was it

This is interesting news, not so long ago codeshaper hinted they were looking at the bank issue, which was surely the first official word on it ever.

Haven't seen the monster lag showing up its nose around the bank lately, but if u do then try to move a few things and walk away and see if they still get eaten or are now found by the janitor.

Now if you can use that to smuggle items that normally are destroyed on quest exit... But I cannot think of any that are +CON. Otherwise we would all love to smuggle no-ML twink gear

Or using the mailbox as your extended Bank without paying the mailbox fee to mail to yourself.


Anyway... Nice find, I'm glad to see some defensive coding feature in place.
