View Full Version : Paladin Smitadin - KotC Big Smite Build

Not a Min/Max build but still respectable dps
In it for Big Smites and the big Scorp plus THF fun
Decent STR + DM IV + Power Attack
Smites crit more with Falchion but are massive with an eXuum/eSoS and spectacular highs can be seen with an eDroaam
Comments welcome (and yes twf would be more dps - but won't flash the giant numbers)
Note that the feat at level 6 is listed as Extend - for buffing
- this can be taken as Maximized for faster (but less total HP) self heals
or simply toughness for more HP

It seems to me you have far to few HP on this guy to be a frontline melee type, and certainly you wont be doing any tanking.
I would recommend dropping the THF line and stack a few toughness feats onto this build.
Also, I am not sure why you have your int so high.. I would move those 4 points into strength.

If you truly wanted to have the "Big Smite Numbers", you'd go Half-Orc for 20 Strength, +2 Strength from Enhancements, and PA Enhancement line.
Second place would probably go to Human with 18 Strength, +1 HA, +5 Damage Human Versatility IV.
Divine Might is important - but is far from the only factor that goes into making "the big smite numbers".
Also, I'll echo what was said above. 14 Int = way too high.

if you're going for BIG smites, wouldn't it be reasonable to put more in STR?
INT to me seems too high

If I was going to go for a big smite, falchion swinging drow elf I would do it like this:

With modest +6 gear on str, wis, char, and con you will be all set to hate tank and rock out on giant smites. This build will easily reach well over 500 hp and grant you a fair bit of self sufficiency while taking full advantage of the Paladins enhancement lines.
Also with maximize on for your cure serious wounds, and your lay of hands you will have a fair bit of self healing at your disposal to solo with or use during emergencies while tanking.

So you lost 4 Int to gain 1 STR and then ended up with the same STR I did and a lower INT (but used a +1 instead of a +2 Tome)
Maximized CSW would be more useful with more SP - but CSW only costs 12 SP. Does it make sense to spend 25 more SP to double it?
Extend seemed better for buffing - could make it a toughness though
You dropped the THF line to get 66 HP - not sure I like the dps loss
HPs for this build
332 planner
10 GH Favor
60 +6 CON item
30 GFL
45 Shroud HP item
20 Minos Legens
----
497 + buffs/pots
But, I think your enhancements were tighter and will use that as a heavy influence to update the OP, much appreciated
cool format btw

THF Line only gives you DPS if you're standing still. I don't know many places in game where we stand completely still, other than the Training Dummy/the Devil Training Dummy, Arraetrikos. And neither is enough to worry about the THF chain.

Haven't you heard? The new big smites build will be human/helf for the +25% damage boost from the updated versatility in U11.
Can't wait to see what numbers people can come up with!

(Combat): You sneak attack Elite Orthon Tower Guard for 1,140 points of slash damage.
That's the best that I've noticed on Live. eSoS on a helpless mob with moderate raid buffing.
So.. +25% of that is a good start.

Yes, Get some healing amp gear too, like DT armor and/or leviks bracers. Never underestimate the power of self healing.
Extend seemed better for buffing - could make it a toughness though-
Extend is only marginally useful for things like prayer and zeal. Un-extended buffs like resist energy and deathward will last long enough to get you to the next shrine. Short Term battle buffs will still last you through most encounters.
You dropped the THF line to get 66 HP - not sure I like the dps loss
Your single target DPS is the same. You only lose out on glancing blows. So lets say you take the full THF line, that gives your glancing blow damage 50% of base damage, and usually no extra effects like holy, elemental etc. You only do glancing blow damage while standing still. Personally I never stand still long enough to trigger them while being surrounded by multiple mobs. I find most players that stand still while attacking/being attacked by multiple mobs take a lot more damage then a twitch style player. A toon taking more damage either needs a dedicated healbot or a hireling ( good luck keeping him alive in the midst of all those mobs.)
HPs for this build
497 + buffs/pots
Using the same gear you have listed here my build has 573 HP before buffs and pots. As I have said previously, I prefer having more HP.

What I meant was for the same number of SP - Unmaximized will heal more HP - but obviously Maximized will heal you faster - just not as much

Some of that INT you didn't like goes to Diplo :)
I will figure out skills and update OP, but Diplo is on the list

Yes. Yes it does. CSW has a 4 second cooldown. If you can't outheal the enemy's damage, you're going to die.
My paladin cycles maxed csw and cmw, with 1.88 amp, and still has difficulty healing well enough to stay alive in say elite sins crowds.
