Havent had a chance to check out lam but I was wondering if I wanted to build a character to squeeze the maximum damage out of a repeater (not situational damage like sneak attacks) which split is looking good at the moment. Or something more like 12 artificer/7 rogue/1monk or some such.

I was wondering the same thing. I think there is a Infusion that "mimics" the INT bump for repeaters. if you were going max DPS, I would guess more levels of Artificer. If Sneak Attack is of minimal concern for you-I would almost suggest pure Artificer. You also get Freebies like the proficiency (Light/Heavy/Great) and Rapid Reload-and dont forget your Rune Arm.

Too bad with art 14 you can't get blade barrier. Arts get max force enhancements so their BBs hit for higher than a FvS, although they lose 3 DCs, and even more if they don't spec for evocation versus a evoker FvSD/Cleric.

I think arts are going to be prized more as spellcasters than xbow users.

Totally agree-they will be a very potent spell caster and group buffer-but with the limited mana pool-the Ranged thing is a good fall back.

Just playing around in Vale last night-I found the Ranged combat to be pretty good after a ran out of "go juice". :)

More Artificer, it's more flexible. My high Int high Dex Mechanic SUUUCCKS when he gets stuck in melee. Sure, Weapon Finesse for +Hit...but BUNKO for damage (unless getting Sneak Attacks).

With Artificer, you can put that Int-to-Damage on anything you want (single-handed at least)...Rapier...Light Mace...Scimitar...

Just an fyi on some things that people have been mentioning in other threads.

It seems Mechanic I int to damage does not stack with the int to hit arty spell.

I wouldn't bet a lot on any stacking options when it comes to arty spells + special weapons either. These haven't been tested to my knowledge but I wouldn't count on it working the way you expect.

Stopping at L14 Artificer seems like a HORRIBLE plan to me. Why would anyone stop 1 level shy of getting BLADE BARRIER?!? PewPew repeaters will only take you so far especially in Epics were as Blade Barrier makes you a force to be reckoned with IMHO in any content.

Wait they said that artificer weapon buffs would be different enough to stack with mechanic. If not then its a HUGE drop in potential ranged power, along with speed its already far inferior. Fail.

I believe they are saying the Mechanic I 'add Int to Crossbow damage' isn't stacking with Insightful Damages 'replace damage stat with Int'.

Insightful Strike + Mechanic I SHOULD be fine.

13 Rogue/6 Arty/ 1 Something for those who like to play stabby.
14 Arty/ 6 Rogue For whatever else you do with 6 rogue that doesn't involve stabbing.

18 Arty/ 2 Rogue For those that like Evasion & hate scroll/wand casting :D

12A/7R/1F is my leanings. Evasion + Repeaters

apart from the fact that you're going to want dex 19 base anyways to get DPS feats up and running.
