This morning reminded me of why I solo/guild only to about Lev 10. On my Lev 2 Wiz soloing Butchers on hard. Think to myself, hmmm it would be nice to have someone to talk to. So I put up an LFM: “Butchers Hard IP” Simple enough right? Two people join, a Lev 4 ranger and a Lev 4 rog. Had to share the quest b/c they didn’t know where it was. The only thing I left alive in the whole dungeon behind me (3/4 done at this point) was the one ogre in the first room. What happens????? They both die after being in the quest 30 sec then drop group…………..

Just me wanting to **** and moan, that is all.

Rule of thumb I have with low level (1-6) pugs.

Am I feeling helpful, patient and altruistic?

Yes? Put up LFM.

N0? Solo!!!!!!!!

If it wasn't for the 10% xp pen (for the 30sec they stayed alive), I'd do it more often. :D

The bleeding hearts can come out and complain if they want, but this is the reason I don't pug alot, as well I'm sure alot of competent people don't as well

P.S. I Hate Puggers

Pugging at low levels is rough because that is where you find the greatest concentration of new fresh off the boat new players. I remember when I started 2+ years ago. Those quests seemed hard......but then again I was new, didn't have pots to cure or heal, and things like blindness and curses were perm. and didn't go away.

I don't usually pug until level 10+......thats when I unleash my gimp builds on the masses of thelanis :)

I feel your pain. So much so that I had to rage-pause for a few weeks or start killin some motherhumpers.

I also feel the hurt. If possible find a TR group to PUG with. Other than that got solo till 10.

And this is why i continue to believe that the 10% xp penalty is really bad for the game. It's bad enough that the difficulty scales when you bring people along, but then they die and you get less xp? It really discourages grouping.

last night I spent about 7 hours trying to farm wiz king. I went through nearly 10 people who hit my lfm, the first 9 were not able to solo their own tower despite my request on my lfm message. Not only did I have to finish my tower, then run all the way to their tower, grab stones and then finish their tower, and then end up finishing the 3rd tower myself anyways - which usually ended up being a 35+ minute run. It wasn't until 4 in the morning I met a drow palemaster who was actually capable of completing a tower by himself.

Carrying people can be extremely time-consuming and exhausting, and the only reason I did it was because I could not wait for a competent group, I had to keep going, going, going.

but I agree carrying people is enough of a punishment, -10% exp is just salt in the wounds when it comes to pugging as a TR (although I never make a big deal out of it).

I do agree with the frustration... especially in the example of the OP but generally if people die mid quest my theory is the 10% is a bonus not base so if I lose it I dont mind really.

Having said that, I mostly solo anyway. I dont mind the death so much its the plain bad play that annoys me more.

I do sometimes run "training" groups. especially quests like The pit, wiz king, amarath quests etc and in those i expect people to die. IMO if it happens it happens but just TRY your best and we will get along fine.

E.G If I type out... dont smash those crates up there because they spawn a fire ele that will mug us off... and someone smashes the crate and dies, I do get frustrate by that type of thing.

This actually has been a really effective strategy for me. Some quests I will do a 'learning run' with the full group, have everyone stick together and walk them through every part of it - and after the first run, put them in groups of 2 and have them split up to do specific parts. Maraud the mines for example, since its a small quest that can be done extremely quick with splitting up.

nine out of ten times that patience for the first run has led to 8 or 9 really smooth follow-up runs, and everyone walks away happy.

Yeah, I'm kind of over sharing quests.* There's a map, and a bunch of quest markers. Run around, have a drink at the wayward lobster, find the AH, and tag all the quests. Then go a' clickin on that LFM tab.

Not trying to be elitist, just avoiding either tards or people who think their time is more valuable than mine. Tho i will share absolutely anything if i get some polite conversation and an excuse (like, Oh, sorry guys, new character, durrr, don't have this quest already saved like i do on absolutely all other chars. Help a kobold out?)

*I will freely share the Delera's chain tho. Just ask!

Heh, that reminds me of my experience pugging Delera.

Lfm was: Delera, p2, window farming, byoh, ip.

First 4 that joined were decent enough, last one was a bit funny:

(party): pugger anonymous vulgaris has joined your party.

me: hi, just started, at the timed gates

pugger anonymous vulgaris: shr plz

me: can't share this one, will bug out

pugger anonymous vulgaris: shr plz

me: like i said, i wont share, it will bug your quest progression, besides you can enter even without the quest, you will have to redo the chain if you want end reward tho

pugger anonymous vulgaris: shr plz

/boot

*couple of not so polite tells from the pugger*

/squelch

Amazing how when he was in group only thing he could say was shr plz, but after had no problem typing insults. :D

LOL! Proto, I like your style. You're the perfect antidote to the "OMG I h8 n00bz" threads. Yes they can be frustrating (I spent 15 mins the other night just directing a guy to the sane asylum quest entrance...) but ultimately you just have to keep going sometimes and get it done.

lol I usually boot people who join and ask for a share right away. And/or if it's like that, "shr plz"...proper spelling is not that hard.

I say screw the not making a big deal about it.

They need to know that they are being nothing more then a complete burden to someone who they dont even know when they dont read your lfm. There mothers should of raised them better then that! they have no respect they get none in return
I am completly insulted when people refuse to read a lfm or read it and not understand it and dont ask for clearfication.

They deserve everything they have comming to them.

It's not the shr plz that bugs me, it's the "what quest" when it was clearly in the lfm!

Yep, I saw Proto's LFM last night, too. And I thought:

"oh, cool guy, he let me pike once or twice or a few times in Necro II, maybe I'll join.
Oh wait. He wants me to solo a tower. Well, I don't have the skills for that. Maybe next time."

And it amazes, me, it AMAZES me, how many people don't have that filter. And it kind of ****es me off. Yes, you're new. That's no reason to talk using grammar, syntax and spelling that a kindergartner would scorn, and ask "shrplz" for every single **** last quest.

In fact, I'm new too. The only times I have to out and out bother people for help is with stuff like raid flagging, or figuring out GS crafting (which I need to start -- yuck!). Finding out where the **** questgivers for Butcher's is not as complicated as those things.

Peoples' innate curiousity, the ability to figure out the simple things for themselves by looking, reading, researching, or experiencing, is just dead. Ugh.

OP, my feelings go out to you. I just got vet. status on the server, so I started a couple new toons ... and I just ... can't ... stomach ... pugging out those levels.

<Wiz-King PUGs blues>

Auch! I was thinking in doing the same in a couple of levels, and your experience seems as a very bad augury ;(

I'm mostly duoing my Pally TR with a friend's gimpy first life bardcher, so no big deal with losing 10% XP (in fact, I don't think he will be able to solo a tower), but if PUGs come and are not able to solve their own tower...

Can someone point me to another same-level XP worthy quest? XD

I usually hate PUG-ranting posts etc, but you have my sympathies. And I applaud your patience and perseverance in running the quests.

But seriously though, 7 hours for the same quest? That takes mondo guts to stomach it.
