As a 31 year veteran of living in Iowa, I have to say this is the first I've heard of this.

Groups tries to try a new fried "food" every year. It is a fad.

twinkies, oreo cookies, beer, and then it was butter.

Not certain what the next thing will be. Pixie sticks?

Also, looks like it originated in 2009 state fair in Texas. Iowa just did it right.

I bet it's delicious, and if eaten and enjoyed in moderation won't carry any serious long-term health effects, unless you have issues with cholesterol and/or heart disease. Even then, a small taste won't hurt.

At least it doesn't have any high fructose corn syrup.

Looking into it, apprently most of the butter melts away from the frying process, so you basically get a hollow tube of cornbread that is saturated in butter and deep fried. Could taste good.

Talking about regional delicacies - here in UK especially Scotland, they have a tradition of trying out unusual deep fried food.

One favourite is Deep fried battered Mars Bar. I think you call a Mars Bar the same in the USA. Another is a deep fried battered Snickers bar.

More traditionally Scotland serves up Battered Haggis, Battered Spam sometimes known as "Spam fritters".

In Wales I have come across battered mushy pea fritters amonst other things

I am sure there are many different items that have been battered and deep fried.

Would be nice to see what is posted here from around the world :)
