How many runs of von6 does it usually take for a sword of shadow to drop?
also, how long does it usually take to make it epic?

Sadly, on all raids, for the loot i want, i assume it will take 20 - 40 runs each :(

I don't know how long it takes I guess you have to be lucky... but for me my first life i saw a couple drop in 10 runs or so but this life in 15 runs of elite/epic it hasnt dropped at all I even had the shard drop for me but not the base and recently my friend went 20 runs without getting it and wasn't on his 20th list either
EDIT
just read how long it takes to epic and ill have to say again it depends on how lucky u are to get base/shard/scroll/seal

I have seen none while running my sorc, but while running the WF pally that was looking for it one dropped on my first run - under the name of the l20 wizard, who promptly looted it and linked it so we could all see the moment when he sold it to the general vendor.
Haven't seen any since :(

Base item you'll probably get within 20 runs, unless you're very unlucky, or pug it all the time with people who are also looking for it (or who will just loot it whether they can use it or not). Scroll is easy as long as you have plat/reds or enough time to farm it out (can't ransack scroll drops :p). Shard/seal are usually the painful part, although from my experience the shard isn't as mythically rare as some people make it out to be (or half of Khyber wouldn't be running around swinging esos :p).

I got one on my bard in 10 runs.
Other loot on other characters that I want have yet to appear.
Sometimes loot is fairly quick. Got a litany on my wiz on the second run. My FvS hasn't gotten one yet.
Really no definitive time when you may get what you are looking for. It is random. It may not appear on the 20th end reward list until you've done 120 runs.

Base: Within 20 runs usually (on end reard if you didnt get one from the chest by then)
Seal: 10-30 VoN1, or 100+ VoN6.. Best do the von1s less your mega lucky on6.
Shard: 100+ VoN6 (the rarest and most desired shard drop makes it ultra difficult)
Scroll: Should collect enough reds to trade for it doing all the VoN6s it wil take.

I made mine in 3 days from scratch...but I wasn't hunting for one. I got the hard part first (shard) farmed the seal in 3 or 4 runs of Von 1 with some guildies, borrowed the scroll from a guildie, and was fully expecting to wait till my 20th run to pull a SoS, but got it a day later when a guildie pulled it and didn't need it.
Realistically though you are looking at between 20 and 100 runs of Von 6 if you are looking for just an SoS shard, the rest is easy to get in comparison.
The key to farming equipment is to not look for one specific item, It seems to drop more if the game doesn't think you are looking for it. :D Other key is a guild will help you if you ask or help them in return, after all that's what a guild is for.
And on Khyber at least SoS scrolls go for anything from 5 to 8 reds right now, used to be much lower.

This :-) the likelihood of you getting what you want out of a raid drastically increases if you run with A)friends B)the same people consistently C)people willing to hook you up with what you need to epic it. Had a guildie a couple nights ago who just needed the seal to epic his SoS. It dropped and got passed to him without anyone batting an eye.

130 runs And I've seen it drop once. I also won that one on a roll of 100 on d100...Then the guy wouldn't give it to me. Insert drahhhhhma, forum posts, black listing, etc.
Haven't seen it on my 20th list yet.

It took me over 20 runs to get the base item. I don't have any of the other parts for it. There was a guild b-day run the other week were 3 shards of them dropped (along with the red scale shard, red helm, red scale and some other base items), all of them got passed to the b-day person. :D

My THF pally is on her 18th run for the base SoS seen a few drop 1 snatched up right away by a thf fighter that it dropped for the saw 2 drop in one run one taken by the owner the other fell to a cleric who Put it up for a d100 roll low and I throw a 99 ( why cant I do that on a d100 high?).
So I can only hope it drops on my 20th.

Drop rate on Epic is 1.75% per toon.
Drop rate on Elite is 1.25% per toon.

Seal has a goood drop rate in VON 1 chest (the one behind the locked door next to the entrance to the arena).

I can answer that, to some extent.
Sword of Shadows has a drop rate of 0.8%/1%/1.25%/1.75% on normal/hard/elite/epic von6.
The scroll is super low per kill (like every other scroll) but tradable so I'm assuming it's irrelevant.
The seal has a drop rate of 0.3% on evon6, and ~3% on evon1.
The shard has a drop rate of 0.6% on evon6.

Simply run on a character that can't use it. Then it will drop for you multiple times.
Pulled and put up for roll three SoS base items in about 65 VoN6's on my Cleric. Pulled a base item on my Bard (THF Warchanter) on about the 26th or 27th run, and never since then.
Seen the SoS shard drop twice in a total of about 100 eVoN6's (counting both my Cleric's and Bard's runs). Seen the SoS seal drop once in that same number of eVoN6's, and twice in about 25 eVoN1's.
It's heavily luck dependent, but Shade's averages are probably what you can expect. You may get lucky and get it far sooner, you may get unlucky and never get the parts.

It all depends on the luck of the draw. To the OP, these statistics may be correct, but they don't account for people like myself who run Von1 for the seal everyday on multiple toons and have never seen one.
I'm not talking 50-100 runs. I run 4 toons through Von1 almost everyday and have for about 6 months and have never seen one, and I don't just mean in my name. I mean I have never seen one in a chest period. I have had enough SoS scrolls to wallpaper my bathroom with, sometimes up to 7-10 at a time even giving them away to friends randomly.
Personally I would shoot for an Epic Antique Greataxe as it seems to be easier to get (was for me anyway) and then of course 2 days later you'll get all 3 base items and a scroll will drop in your name the next time you run a Von6. Unless your name happens to be Biggin.

how many reds is the scroll worth?
Depends on your server, the alignment of the stars, and the sellers mood.
I bought one for 3 reds, another for 5. Seen some have paid as much as 9. On khyber. Think ive seen one over 10 on another servers market.
PS: Change your avatar please, blackies mine and your confusing everyone =)

It took me over 100 Runs on all of my toons to get the Shard from the chest.
Then again, sometimes there are good days (http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=331077).

I know someone who took over 80 runs to get the shard and I know someone who got it in one. YMMV

Wow. Do you check all the side chests? I found the ESoS seal drops like mad in those. I've ran it a ton too, 100+ times at least. But seen TONS of esos seal, more then any other in there, seems very common - , especially the side chests. With 3 chests it can drop in, and a good rate, thats some real bad luck u had heh. Course it can also drop in von2-6, tho at a much lower rate.
Each von has at least 1-2 seals which are common drops... VoN2 for example I always ran after 1 drops the dragons eye seal like every single run, tho it is also overall a very hard item to epic due to other parts being quite rare.
Often I find 1st timers I take along get it. Many of them offer it for sale or roll so it was never an issue. Think I had no less then 5 in my many runs, and started giving them away myself.
In your case I don't see the epic antique being any easier at least in terms of the seal problem, actaully it seems harder. Because while the seal drops from an equally short/easy quest.. It only drops in 1 chest, and imo at about the same rate as the esos one, or at 2/3rd less accounting for the lack of chests it can drop from.

I do evon1s almost every day these days. I think I've seen one seal drop so far, ever, in about 30 runs (90 chest pulls). It wasn't the ESoS.

mmm either lotsa bad luck or they nerfed it. Really seemed very common back in the day.

If the posted 3% in the Epic chest is correct, and lower in the side chests in eVoN1, you should expect to see it in about 50 eVoN1's. The side chests definitely have lower drop rates than the end chest.
It's probably a bit of a nerf, since the VoN seals in general seem a lot more difficult to get than they used to be.

I run it regularly in Elite (fast group setup and runs) to try to get the base mat which is my only missing piece (13 completions so far).
I've had 2 runs where 2 dropped in the same run, some runs where none dropped in 3 consecutive rows.
But on average I think I've seen it drop 1 per 2 runs.
So the drop of the base mat itself is actually pretty frequent at least in my experience and it's not that rare to have the chest owner putting one for roll so I expect to get one within 20 runs.
As others have mentioned the shard or scroll are a lot more difficult to get (I got lucky on the shard and for the scroll you better have a high level caster to farm it)

I've seen 2 seals in my last 3 runs of eVon1 last week. I got that 2nd seal.
In total I've run eVon1 maybe 9 times and seen 3 seal of the SoS plus a few others.
Don't know if it matters for seal drops but we open the 2 side chests before picking up the axe and completing the quest.

I've done maybe 45 runs across 3 toons and have yet to get the shard. I am lacking the item on the toon that really wants it, and the scroll is too expensive for my current budget. All that said I still work towards it and Von6 is one that I think is fun. I was able to make the Epic Xuum in a week after I pulled the shard. I might have gotten pretty lucky, but it works pretty darn well as an alternative. It's crazy sometimes how the game works. It took 60 runs before I could get a torc in the end list. Some times the things you want are hard to get.
