Which do you prefer? Pen and Paper? or this graphical world we all run around in?
If I had to chose, I would say PnP. A little harder to notice progress though.

PnP wins any day.
Only problem is to get the people together I like to play with. But yes, any day we get enough people, we play PnP.

Different animals really.
PnP is where my heart lies, but I spend far more time in DDO and doing DDOcast.
DDOs huge advantage is its easy, accessible, and fast.
PnP of course is about creativity and telling your own story. If I was just doing hack and slash, I'll go with DDO, its good for that. But for a story and adventure, a good DM and good friends is great times unequaled by any computer game.

I would prefer PnP but I haven't been able to play with a group in years so I play DDO instead.
That being said, my 12 y/o son is getting interested in D&D and has been asking me to DM for him and his friends. Been years since I played but it should be a fun experience for us all.:)
Pnp but not dnd never really liked 3.x that much have gone to playing the new nonjoke version of hackmaster and good ole runequest

I was the gamemaster. But when adulthood hits, marriages happen, jobs happen, kids happen, PnP has to be sacrificed.
My group use to all fly into a central location and we would hole up in a hotel penthouse for three or four days. Nothing but DnD almost all day and recovery in the morning. Then back at it around 10 AM.

I haven't played in years, but PnP. Way more customization, a campaign setting I would prefer, and, most importantly, getting together with friends to shoot the [expletive deleted] and munch on junk food.
I like DDO, and I do play with family and friends, but would take a PnP session over a DDO session any day of the week.

PnP, no doubt.
But as some others, havenĀ“t play for years. My friends are 3000 km away.

PnP, but we don't get together anymore. But a guildie of mine and I kind of added the role play of pnp to a couple of the toons we play with, with each other. Their bio's and our chat reflects it. he even has another toon that is kin to the one I quest with that i hide from to keep from being killed by her since he was missing for so long she thought I had something to do with his disappearance lol. And even though he wrote her to let her know all was fine and well. She still does not like Drow's (i think she just don't like my girl to begin with lol, they kind of clash! she's a little halfling and is probably a bit jealous of my long legs *wink* and thinks I am going to steal her brother away from the family. But he left their villiage long ago and not because of me! We met up in the harbor one day and took off for an adventure in Irestone inlet. You would think I would have stopped talking to him right then and there when he blew me up on a boat! But he apologized saying he couldn't help it......... he's chaotic... I said No Problem ........ I'm Neutral)
See you can bring PnP into this game if you are willing to.
The problem is finding someone or a group who does not think you to be a complete freak for the roleplay. (It can take time though as well and many don't want to take time doing a quest.) but I love looking at the cleric and groaning because I have some sort of illness. Or cheering someone for killing that monster or for getting that trap. Or sighing because so and so took of and almost got himself killed again. The emotes are written into the game for a reason. But they rarely get used for what they are there for.
And I know a lot of people who play this game who NEVER touched PnP.
So they have no clue
So those of us who can not get together for PnP anymore we still can have the PnP feeling. If we put effort into finding the right people here to quest with.

now it's DDO but back in the day we had some good times, my first DM was a friend's dad and now that I've played Delera's I remember that guy sounded a lot like Gygax and always had great dungeons he made up.

In a perfect world PnP.
In the real world DDO.
Why?
PnP you need to find a group that wants to play and as an adult that can be a challenge.
PnP needs people to arrive somewhere on a regular basis which is sometimes hard to do.
If a bunch of people can't make it it effects the game. (It's hard to PUG PnP)
PnP can't be played all the time by adults.
DDO you can log in when it's convenient.
You can play as much or as little as you want.
If your game buddies can't make it you can just hit the LFMs.
On the other hand, PnP is more social and it involves your brain, creativity and imagination more.

Exactly.
Just like Go Fish really.
Well, let's say a Twinkie represents the normal card game.
Dungeons and Dragons would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds.
