View Full Version : Questions about cleric life for TR

Okay, so my hitherto melee-only completionist toon is going to jump in the healing waters and go through his cleric life. What I'm looking for are suggestions mainly on when to take the feats I'm going to be taking, or if I'm overlooking something obvious because I've never played a healer before.

Here's the especially fancy loot I have:
-Litany of the Dead
-Upgraded Vibrant Purple Ioun Stone
-GS Goggles (150 SP, +5cha, conc opp)
-min II quarterstaff
-min II helm

Here's the especially fancy loot I don't have (and probably won't grind for before I TR):
-Torc
-Eardweller
-Mysterious Bauble
-Green Blade or Skiver
-No epic items except Mirror Cloak (but I'm planning on jumping to next TR as soon as I hit 20).

Other than that, I have almost all the stuff from VOD, HOX, Reavers, and VON.

Things I'm tied to in the build:
-I like the idea of being a Clonk
-Not trying to swap out a lot of gear during play.

Things I'm not tied to in the build:
-being a Halfling
-going 18/2 (although it looks like 17/3 is more of a headache)
-the feats I've taken or haven't
-my starting attributes

What I want out of this guy:
1) not noob it up too much when asked to heal people
2) throw some blade barriers around once in a while
3) keeping up in TR xp runs where I'm the only healer

What I'm not looking for out of this guy:
1) Solo-healing TOD while eating a sandwich
2) being on par with Prelude.

Anyway, Cannith will appreciate it over the next few months if I get some good suggestions here.

Looks like a pretty solid build, nothing really to comment on.

If you want something a little different, you could give this one of mine a try http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=329819 which is a high-survivability melee cleric with decent group healing & support capabilities. Since you've already got monk past life, you could substitute in the selected monk past life feat for something & that plus jidz bracers in earth stance (or the garments of equilibrium) would put your unarmed damage die up to 1d10.

I've done 3xclerics life on my TR'ing project. All of done were pure cleric the whole run.

My main resons I wanna get all spells as soon as I can.

I found it usefull to have blade barriers for shadowcrypt by using the upgraded quel sora set you get from Lordmach Plaza chain quest.

These can be usefull and you'll end up with some nice extra neat stats too by example True Seeing it might look stupid since you play a cleric... but how many time you end up getting dispel and to recast it over you. Divine Favor + Divine Power + Set makes you hit decently with a 2hander. I also enjoy wearing bracier of glacier if you can get a pair of these at lvl13. So you can keep your VOM constantly on and not having to bother to switch everytime to boost the XP chunk you'd get from optionals. I do own a vibrant purple Ioun stone and time I use it sadly if for self buffing.

I was mainly Blade barrying down melee's mob/comet fall if needed and melee down archers/casterish mobs (with a GS mineral2 GS). Oftenly I start my blade barriers over a caster obviously so I get an advantage right off the bat to kill them quickly. You can always destruction/slay living of course but personally Conserving my spell points to avoid shrinning was more important to me. So I can keep pushing without bothering about shrinning even though sometimes I use mana pots to avoid shrinning or having to run back to a shrine! I also have no torc.

There's a couple thing able to kill me. Traps on elite mode (If I wasnt carefull), and sometimes some hard traps meld with server lag. Last thing mostly is these frigging monks in monastery of the scorpions. Evasion plus will save and some AC... pretty much a cleric bane .

Mainly my gear: for lvl11-20

Quel Sora set from lordsmarch plaza series: I use non upgraded and upgraded one (switching at lvl13)
GS Conc SP goggle
Marilith Chain
Tharaak Bracers/Bracer of Glacier
One of my ring is TumbleWeed (Strangely +hit stacks with quel sora...) obviously the other ring slot is quel sora set. (At lvl11 I use an Ancient Band for Heavy Fort)
Boots of The Innoncent
Belt lvl13: Electric Haze (lvl11 I use GFL belt)
Cloak: Crafted Large Guild Augment Slot with health gem. Enchantement is concentration for heal scrolls (maximize your spell points for damaging/crowd control spells)
necklace: +6 Constitution nothing fancy for this slot... and only one free for this precious stats :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't a Horc get his extra damage enhancements from a quarterstaff? Is there no synergy here? If you aren't planning to do more casting than some buffs, heals and BBs on occasion Clonk is better for you than a pure cleric.

Mysterious Bauble is not hard to farm and well worth it. Even faster/easier if you have some friends who don't need it come help you get it. But you could farm for it during your Cleric life, not before, if desired.

Going to do offensive casting? Max Wis, right? Grab Heighten, too. Your Sound Burst, Greater Command, Destruction, Banishment, etc., will thank you for it. Heck, even your BBs will thank you for it.

Oh, and if you get a chance, grab the Stormreaver's Napkin from Reaver's Fate.

Spell Pentration or Spell Focus decent good feats, too. Dropping Mental Toughness, having Toughness x2 instead of x3, or dropping Extend, wouldn't really hurt much.

Oh, and if you need more AP for enhancements, more than the first tier of Prayer of Life and Prayer of Incredible Life aren't really worth it, in my opinion.
