Balance, why max?

From what I have read, Balance is only used for one raid I've never been on (40 for titan knockdown? immunity) and as a check to get back up after you have been knocked down (DC 10?). I have noticed that many of the power builds get balance way above the 40 threshold... this leads me to believe that I don't quite understand what all balance is used for.

So what is the advantage of a very high balance?

to me its similar to having high constitution. not always needed, but nice to have when the time comes.

its a survival skill, helpful in many quests (not so much raids).

lots of animals use knockdown which is a strength save...many classes wont have enough to save all the time, so balance helps you get up before you die so you can jump out of the way or finish the kill.

also many warriors you find in most quests will us the trip skill. balance will save your life, especially when soloing. or save the life of others if you are on a divine when you get tripped.

oh and reavers fate is one other raid i can think of where you might get tripped a couple times, especially if running shortman or solo

I wouldn't think the DC to stand up could be as low as 10. On a low balance char, which for me is around 20, I most certainly do not get up right away all the time, as would be the case if the DC was only 10. However on my highest balance char with a 56, he gets up right away all the time.

I believe the DC for getting up is the same as the DC to avoid being tripped, although that's just a gut feeling.

If you get tripped DC is 10, if you are in middle of a persistent effect that determines the DC, afaik.
