View Full Version : Why Nerf? Just fix problems with Buffs!

This is alittle of a read, and I must say some of it I have read from other posts from other people and I dont remember the names of proper credit but I am in no way claiming all this to be my own mind.

Show casters be able to instant kill? Yes!
Even in epics? Yes!
Should they be able to instant kill ALL the trash in epics? No!

I see all these cries to nerf the casters! But why take away their goodies so you can have yours? Its all about finding the happy medium of letting them kill things to(please don't make them buff bots again) and letting melee not pike till the boss, but instead have some fun to!

A few slight changes and buffs could make this happen.

To better balance the game and casters!
Make mobs have a extremely high save. Be it Fort, Will or Reflex will depend on the mob. Im talking so even max DC caster will have a hard time landing a spell on the High save. With this some mobs Fort will be to high to autokill in any efficient manner while others will be near Unholdable due to Will then naturally with a High reflex you can expect to do half damage on damage spells or even none if they have evasion.
This will make it so they do get to autokill but in a group of mobs not every mob is just going to vanish into death. They wont be expected to just spam mass holds cause A. No autocrits and B. Very small chance of holding all the mobs. So now casters have to carry an Assortment of spells and attack the mobs by the medium or low saves to be effective.

To help the melee!
Let Stunning Blow, Stunning Fist, Hold Person/Monster(not the AoE versions) and Stat Damagers allow auto crits.
This allows single target Holds, Stuns and Helplessness to allow auto crits while any AoE versions and Paralyzers do not. Including Improved Precise Shot and stat damagers. Make it so the stat damage only fires on the main target not the others sprayed.
This gives physical and magical damagers a means to not only increase physical damage on a single target but makes it so they have to put effort into DCs or time to Stat Damage a monster before making it helpless.

Add some Random Gen to the game!
Make it so rolls are made when someone enters a dungeon that mobs will have a Deathblock item or Buff. So some mobs will end up with a deathblock type item/buff and be immune to instant death and stat damage. Naturally the buff could be Dispelled and the item Disjunctioned.

Now the true question, on the high saves would should be an acceptable roll from a Focused caster to land these saves? Some of these casters are running around with 43-45 DC. So what if at that level of DC they was passing High saves 50% of the time? They probably wouldn't be spamming instant deaths cause its not as effective as handling a weaker save.

That was me to. At first I posted here and really, it should have been in the other forum. :P
