Where in the heck do you get a Portable Hole???

I've found 2 so far in chests. One I found was a favor reward IIRC?

Loot em from chests, or end rewards or if you get 75 favor from Agents of Argonession (GH)

They're random chest drops. You can also purchase them from AH, or choose one as a reward for achieving (I believe) 75 favor with the Agents of Argonessen (Gianthold, Reaver's Refuge).

That would be kind of a waste however.
In that reward list is also a flawless syberis dragonshard that's much more valuable. Even if you don't anticipate have to swap out a feat at lvl 20, you could sell it on the AH for much more than a collapsed portable hole costs.

On Sarlona, I bought a portable hole for 30k, but I could sell the flawless shard for around 200k, judging from AH prices.

In short, if you want a portable hole, you're better off buying one on the AH.

There are two quests that seem to drop collapsed portable holes somewhat reliably -- at least for me: Stormcleave Outpost and Tempest Spine.

I guess it has been a while since I got a character to that benchmark. Most of mine hit it a long time ago and IIRC the collapsed portable hole was the only option. Maybe I just don't remember it right. But if a flawless siberys is an option now, that rocks!

It has never been the only option, but back then it was the better one at the time.

Now, flawless should be the one to take (and it is there now, BLW). Heck, I save that favor just so I don't have to bank it, +10 HP waiting for me or not.

Yeah, they changed it with update 9, I think. Collapsed portable hole, Siberys dragonshard, exceptional Siberys dragonshard, flawless Siberys dragonshard, blood of dragons, and some Arraetrikos cookies (like anyone would ever take that option).

When you tell him to "Take that option", you're telling him to forsake all the others. You're not saying "oh, it exists here, but that's not really a good option." or telling him the comparative values of that versus the other items on this list.

I think he was just trying to say that if your end goal is getting a CPH, then you can get the favor then take that option as the reward. Never said it was the best option, just that it was an option on a static reward table.

I agree. What is more, depending on the player, it may in fact be the best option.

For example, I seldom screw up my characters so have no need for feat exchanges. In my case having a shard that enables feat exchanges is less valuable to me than having a portable hole.

To carry the example further. The shards can be gotten by combining lower level shards and fragments. If really necessary I can create a shard from the endless supply of fragments that every character I run collects on a routine basis. The same is not true for portable holes.

Lastly, if I really need a shard I can buy one from the Turbine Store. I can't buy portable holes.

So, it is arguable that chooseing the portable hole as a reward item is actually the best choice a player could make. :)

I'm currently running a lvl5 rogue dwarf on the Cannith server. (Just lvled up, BTW.)
I'm rather liking the guild I'm in although, they are all pretty high lvled chars to run with, I'm trying them out as they are trying me out as well. LOL
Bowrick is his name. I've found he can't open all locks and doors, yet. I'm pretty hot under the collar about that, for a master mechanic rogue. LOL
But, I'm still having fun. Isn't that what it's all about anyway?

Just met an 11 yr old girl last week who likes to 'carry' me around with her. She does get to zerking on her own and I have to come and bail her out all the time.
You adults may find this rather funny, as I have but, when I find her, she's generally out cold on her back, most often. LMAO

The price for them on the AH on Ghallanda was astronomical. AH had them for around 1,000,000 plat, I sold one of mine to another player for 40K, but I checked the AH first to make sure I was robbing him. I told him if he was short plat he could list it on the AH for 500,000 plat. No idea what he did.

A flawless costs 120TP, holes are cheap and plentiful on the AH because they drop like crazy, I've pulled 6 or 7 on my main before I TRd

I got the 75 favor reward from Agents of Argonessen for the first time about 2 weeks ago (I'm new), and the list included a Collapsed Portable Hole, and Siberys Shards from normal to flawless (also Velah cookies but who's going to take that one?).

I don't think that's changed in 10.1.

I think the first collapsed portable hole I pulled was in Relic of a Sovereign Past back at lvl 9. I was doubly happy as at the time I was there to look for adamantine ore for a heavy fort necklace, which I also managed. Good times! The last one was in one of the necro 4 quests I think ... no one in the group wanted it so I just added it to the growing pile in my bank. They aren't a common drop but they're a bit like buses ... wait for one to turn up for ages then three arrive at once.

Thought I'd add that I just rerolled another character with the same name. Used a 'mule' to transfer my stuff over to him. Took a couple hours to get it all straight.
He's now a lvl3 Elf rogue named, Bowrick on the Cannith server.
