Anybody know? I tried to see if I could find a loot table anywhere, but no dice. On my server at silver greataxes are gobbled up the second they get posted. I have a guildie who pulled a silver rapier out of Chambers of Insanity the other day, is it totally random, or are there certain quests that drop them more frequently?

Think its random...except silver handwraps...

Yep - totally random, although metallic handwraps (and other weapons) drop as named loot from Devil's Assault on norm and hard.
It's possible that higher-level loot is more likely to have metal types, but I haven't observed this.

Don't quote me on this, it might be nice to get conformation from someone else but i think that devil assault (the same place you can find silver hand wraps) has a higher chance of dr breaking weapons dropping.

As has been said, Devil Assault on Normal and Hard is the only one that will actually have an increased chance of metallic weapons. Not necessarily the metal/weapon you want, of course, and the amount of runs it may take to get something good will vary.
All in all, end reward lists of mid-level quests seem better to me. They have large lists (10 items + Renown or so), so there's a lot of randomly generated loot there. Eventually, you see one pop up with a metal type. :D

Normal & Hard DA has a higher than normal chance to drop metal weapons.
I have also found that any quest chain with a static metal type end reward has a chance to drop another metal item in its place.

If you're looking at crafting, anecdotal evidence seems to say that the Waterworks chain end reward has a better-than-most chance at BTA weapons w/ special materials.

Don't you get chain end reward from Waterworks only once?

No, you get the extra Harbormaster's reward only once, but that's just normal at-level random unbound end reward stuff.
The BtA reward from the guy by the entrance to the first part is repeatable; you'll get a new list each time you do the chain. That's where you can get BtA special material items.

I'll have to look into this, because I know that even though its random the loot tables are skewed. For example I can't sneeze in the Sharn chain without getting a pair of ff boots.

Your best bet will be a quest with lots of chests. More chances probably yields better results than norm/hard DA.

The Delera's end-chain reward can contain non-stated metal weapons, but you have to check carefully. For instance, my dark monk is carrying around a "+2 Quarterstaff" with damage type Bludgeon, Silver.

Hmm, I wonder if it would keep the silver quality after being disjuncted.

I disjuncted an Adamantine Quarterstaff from Deleras (which did not say Adamantine in its name), and was able to put Construct Bane on it. It breaks DR on golems, and then some :)
(Min level 5 I believe with just the Construct Bane property)

I'm trying to get a silver greataxe for my permadeath kensai. Sublime allows AH use, but I do not have a whole lot of money to spend on it, lol. Also the for whatever reason this weapon is harder to get in silver on my server than even kopeshes. The past few days there has only been one even on the ah, and its up for 625k! I do not have the dough for that, besides which I like the idea of finding it, its kinda like my kensai is crafting his signature weapon himself, like in PnP. I have time, I can't even craft what i want to make yet - my levels aren't high enough. I want to make a Silver holy of incite great axe for tanking bosses.

You can find those "hidden silver" BTA quarterstaffs in most quest chain end rewards, albeit rarely. I found mine in Threnal, of all places:

Waterworks is probably the fastest, but any quest chain that offers BTA items in the end reward list should work.

I pulled a silver kopesh out of WW myself last night

Fastest BTA weapon rewards are the Red Fens quests and possibly the Sharn ones. I've not seen special materials in there as much as WW.
(I actually asked this question a few weeks back and started hitting up WW after that was what the community consensus seemed to be)

Right. Like I said, you want to focus on quest chains with BTA end rewards if you're after metal types, not individual quests that offer BTA items.

I will note I did pull a non-stated Byshek q-staff from a Red Fens quest - though, honestly, staffs may be different.

Come Out and Slay also sometimes offers metal-type weapons.
